I spend some days at The Pallet Guest House and I felt it´s a good place for someone that is visiting Madeira for the first time, even if you´re travelling on your own, like me. 
The place was clean and has the basic equipment necessary for holidays. Enrique, the host, has some really nice suggestions to explore the island. The guest house is very near to the beach (5 minutes walking) and there are some really nice restaurants nearby. The airport is 10 minuts driving. Totally reccomend The Pallet!

Cosy and easy going place to stay in Madeira

To be honest we didn’t expect a lot for the price but given the facilities or lack of we overpaid! The location is extremely noisy, dogs barking all night, church bell tolling all night and noise from cafes below. The furniture is made from pallets and supported by crude metal bars that have lethally sharp edges. The laminated floors make it impossible to be quiet and the doors squeak. The main issue for us was the shared bathroom which we did not expect and felt it wasn’t clear from the booking web site that this was the case. The shower drains did not drain and the water was scalding hot, not a place for a family. At best this should be categorised as a hostel but we were surprised given the number of hazards that this had obtained a license for paying guests. The owner was very pleasant but did not compensate for a terrible night, we did try to find alternative accommodation but gave up and given we used the room from 8pm till 5 am put up with it. At best it was a dry warm place to lay down.

BASIC to say the least

We only spent one night there. Our room was clean, bit noisy because it is very central, which was positive for having a quick dinner. The location is very close to the beach. We could not use it though, but would be nice in summer. 

It is also very close to the airport. That's why we chose this location. It also means that you can hear the aircrafts landing and taking off. 

For one night, it was very good for us.

Clean location, nice idea with pallets and friendly owner

We had already booked a deluxe room in the Palette Guest House half a year in advance, so that when we arrived we would have to find out that there was a problem with our booking. It seemed that the accommodation had been accidentally overbooked, which according to the assessments does not seem to be an isolated case. As a solution, the landlord offered us a nearby apartment around the corner, which he wanted to make tasteful for us, so that he would also have cleaned it (who would have thought that?!) and now we would even have our own bathroom and kitchen.

Careful, get your fingers out!

We booked a Deluxe room and he told us that there would be overbooking, and he took us to another place, an old, very noisy and unpleasant apartment for the same price.

Warning!!!

Luckily a police officer was on the street and accompanied us: big door closed he went to look for someone at the bar next door who shouted a first name at the door and a young woman came out. the officer still advised him to put a little sign!) the rooms overlook a place where there are bars and restaurants so it is impossible to sleep before 2am! no part of course a simple indoor store, the very uncomfortable bedding. and finally to finish shower and common toilet that closes by lovingly (everyone can come in at any time).... look for a shower where there is water! we are very sorry to have ended our stay in this place Mad!!! we must avoid this place!

What to Avoid

Located near the airport. Price: price, possibility of using an outdoor kitchen. Faults: shared bathroom and parking area only for a fee. The manager is friendly and available. In the central area there are many restaurants

Good price/quality ratio

The guy who owns the place seems fairly young and new to the accommodation world but he was super friendly and drank / gave us wine during our showing and then he left us to settle in 
The pallets as the bed was a cool idea and works well, the rooms are a wonderful size and big windows we were very comfortable here :) 
Shower drainage was a little slow and the doors a little finicky sometimes but no worries, nothing that made us feel unhappy. The location is fantastic, close to the sea, close the best seafood I've had in years ! And the local dogs are adorable ! 
Great for the price and quite a fun interesting idea built here, would happily stay again :) 
Helpful, clean, fair price, couldn't ask for much else :)
