While on a cycling holiday in the Netherlands we needed accommodation for one night in Gorinchem.  Although a good sized town the place is somewhat short on places to stay.  I contacted the local hotel and three B&Bs and all were full. I located B&B Gorinchem via a search engine and telephoned one Mark Diezi who said he had a small room available for 60 euros with breakfast.  He indicated that the place was on the top floor and a shared washroom was across the hall.  We arrived in Gorinchem in the early evening after cycling for over 8 hours and found the place.  Mark left the key for us behind a wreath on the door and we went up to the attic where we found a grungy room with a bunk bed with about 20 inches (50cm) of space between the lower and top bunk.  There were a couple of dirty windows onto the roof, a dirty carpet in a space of about 6 by 8 feet (2m X 2.7m) A coffee maker and a kettle were on the floor.  We had to crouch the whole time to avoid hitting our heads.  It was very similiar to being in a small tent.  It turned out that the shared washroom facilties we in Mark,s sleazy apartment across the hall.  Because we simply had no other options for accommodation, we decided to stay there, although we probably would have been wiser to swpend the night at the train station.  We had access to Mark's apartment in the evening and managed to take take showers and went to bed.  The place was very warm and after we opened up the windows, the hovel filled up with mosquitoes.  In the morning we wanted to use the "shared" facilities but Mark locked us out of his apartment and would not answer the door no matter how much we knocked and called.  We packed up and went downstairs to discover that our bikes were gone together with the benches we chained them out to. The people who owned the benches in front of the building decided to teach us a lesson.  But no one told us that we cannot leave our bikes in front of this B&B.  Even after phoning Mark to get him to come down and sort the matter out, he refused to come down. Finally after about an hour we were aqle to get our bikes back.  
This place is to be avoided like the plague.  The owner is a deceitful man with no honour, conscience or sense of responsibility.  The room we stayed in is below any semblance of standards, and anyone with any dignity would be embarassed to offer it as accommodation.  In fact I would not stay there if someone paid me 60 euros, instead we paid 60 euros for a night of sheer hell.
