We stayed in one of these cottages for two nights during our trip to Yakushima and it was a great choice. The cost was very reasonable to have your own little apartment to stay in. The location is good with several decent restaurants within walking distance in the evenings and next to the main road with buses (if you take the bus) and not too far to drive to most of the main sites of the island from this spot. The owner is lovely, makes you feel very welcome and knows everything there is to know about Yakushima. For example, I told her I'd like to do some river swimming (not a common request apparently!) and she directed me to a river where locals sometimes go for a swim in summer. Fabulous! She also made sure we were aware there was going to be a rocket satelite launch from a neighbouring island one morning so we could go watch it. Very thoughtful! All in all, I highly recommend this place if you are staying on Yakushima.
