Hotel New Otani Tokyo

We booked a deluxe double king room in the Executive House Zen floors of the New Otani using AMEX Plat and was upgraded to an executive king suite! The suite was truly lovely and really a perfect place to end the night. We also had access to the executive lounge and that also was quite a treat. The menu in the lounge changed 3 times a day so no matter the time of day, we were able to have a tasty treat -- we usually ended the night with a glass of champagne to celebrate the day. The morning breakfast buffet in the main dining room was incredible with so many choices, both traditional Japanese as well as more typical American breakfast choices. The grounds are also spectacular with a beautiful zen garden and waterfall. The best thing about the hotel, however, was the impeccable service of the staff. On what was supposed to be our last day of our stay, I fell ill (an unfortunate bout of food poisoning likely from a dish at Tsukiji!). The staff graciously extended our stay for another night without needing to change rooms since I was ill. They also called the next hotel we were supposed to be checking into to let them know I was sick and could not make it until the following day. That hotel usually charges a 100% cancellation fee given same day cancellation but because the New Otani staff explained the situation, the next hotel only charged us a 50% fee which we were pretty happy about. Altogether, this was a wonderful stay at a truly beautiful hotel. One thing to note is that this hotel is not close to any subway stations -- it's approximately an 11 minute walk and depending on the route you take back to the hotel, the walk includes a slight hill (but, if you cut through the New Otani Garden lobby, you can skip the hill altogether.
