Optimum Sheela Inn @ Taj

We were greeted by Rashmi, who was very polite and also extended our booking... Location is perfect to visit Taj mahal in the early morning on foot... Rooms were clean and we didn't have problems at all

Awesome Hotel....we had a problem as soon we entered in room ..we informed them and they immediately changed it with the bigger and better one....Staff behaved well especially Rashmi and Suraj ...food was yummy ...awesome experience..

“I have to be honest and say I wasn’t expecting much from this stay - just closeness to the Taj - which it certainly has. But I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The grounds are lovely and tranquil (there are some cheeky monkeys though..) and a real oasis from the carnival of the East Gate Road. The restaurant provides very good food and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would advise going for an a/c room though. The closeness to the Easr Gate is fantastic for a sunrise visit to the Taj”

Good value and very close to the Taj

Nice hotel at affordable price

Pros -Location is very close to the Taj Mahal
Staff is friendly

Cons- Dinghy small rooms with no ventilation 
              Lots of mosquitoes & insects  inside the room 
AC was not working properly and it was very hot inside the room ..Blankets were thick rugs ...Had an uncomfortable night with mosquitoes & heat



Needs improvement in management of Rooms

This hotel is very basic, it has a basic room that is relatively clean but cold shower and a bit grubby in places. We didn’t have high expectations having read the previous reviews.

However, the location is excellent- you are right next to the east gate to the Taj Mahal. Meaning you can get up early and buy your tickets and get into the Taj as the sun is rising. I would suggest only one night as Agra is not a particularly nice city!! 

Basic but excellent location 

Not usually one to complain or be fussy and am happy to rough it in most circumstances, we are a young couple and usually easy going but this has been the dirtiest and uncomfortable hotel we have ever stayed in. (Including hostels is the poorest third world countries). But there is a difference between a hotel needing some work and pure laziness. 
To start with: when we arrived they seemed totally confused that we had booked and spent ages trying to figure out who were and did not feel welcome at all. 
We were asked to pay the full amount for two nights in advance, which we did but after seeing our room we had regrets.
The bedroom had not been cleaned properly (if at all). Used toiletries left from previous guests in our bathroom, and a dirtied towel on the ground. 
We had to ask for every single thing we needed - towels, pillows, blankets, aircon (paid for). None provided without asking first. Sheets for the bed did not seem clean.
The room had marks on all the walls and dirt, as did the bathroom which also had what I suspect was human faeces. Dirt and marks were wiped off with some soap and tissue when I tried which shows how little effort was put into cleaning. 
The hot water in the shower did not work, and when I asked they said “maybe later because of electricity”. 
Bathrooms share vents with other guest rooms, so expect to hear lots of noise. 
Left our room and found in the hallway 20+ Indian guests having their lunch meal, they were apologetic and had to sit there as the hotel did not provide them any dining space. 
They recommended we try the restaurant for lunch at their sister hotel next door (optimum Tara palace), we went at 1pm and were told we could only order sandwiches pizza or fries, nothing else available on the menu. 
We left after our first night to stay at a different hotel. Asked for a refund but was offered another room within the hotel. No thanks. To be fair the staff tried to fix things as we asked, but this was beyond what they could offer. Owner should consider putting some work into this hotel and getting some cleaning done.

Only positives; fast wifi and close to Taj Mahal. Spend the extra money and stay elsewhere and take a driver to the Taj. Not worth it.
