City-Ferienwohnungen-Dresden

This is the second time I've stayed in the "City Appartement" on the Louisenstrasse in Dresden Neustadt while attending a two-week Goethe Institut course. The location is very good, just a block off the Königsbrücker Strasse, only a couple of minutes from the Louisenstrasse tram stop, and a 10-15 min. walk to the Goethe Institut. I prefer the Neustadt to the more touristy Altstadt, and there are convenient food markets, bakeries, restaurants, a laundromat, etc., although it's a lively area with lots of nightlife, and can sometimes be noisy. This wasn't a problem in October, but I'm not sure about the summer, with open windows. The City Ferienwohnungen (vacation apartments -- five in all, different sizes and prices) are located in a pleasant old building with a private courtyard in the rear. The courtyard is a lovely little oasis, with tables/chairs, a grill, etc.The downside is that the staircase is steep and winding, with no elevator. The City Appartement, where I stayed, is three stories up. I didn't mind the daily climb but dragging my heavy luggage up and down was pretty hard. If this is a problem for you, consider one of the lower floors. Each Wohnung is different, very clean, lovingly decorated, and feels like a home away from home. The Appartemente is a cozy, pleasantly decorated two-room apartment, with bedroom/sitting room, a kitchenette with eating table, and its own bathroom with shower. (The Domicile is similar and on a lower floor.) It was clean, well equipped, warm, and cozy. The kitchen has a small refrigerator, a two-burner stove, a sink, coffee maker, electric kettle, dishes, glassware, pots, pans, etc., but lacks a microwave or toaster. Since I only made coffee and breakfast, it was OK for me. I think it would be challenging to do any serious cooking here. There was no internet connection in my apartment. There is a WLAN hotspot at a desk on one of the landings in the stairwell and as it was fairly expensive and not a particularly pleasant location, I didn't try to use it. As I was able to use free internet at the Goethe Institut, it was a situation I could live with, but not ideal. At 50 Euros a night, plus final cleaning charge of 20 E, I felt this was a good value and I would stay here again. It works well for a single person or a couple.
