27 reviewsWe stayed at the Yue Long Hotel in Datong last September after being recommended by a local. It was a very pleasant experience overall. It was the first time we had stayed in a real Chinese hotel. There was some difficulty with the language at reception as only one staff member had any English. However she tried very hard to look after us and make sure we were made welcome. The rooms were so quaint, so different from international hotels in the large cities which cater mainly to westerners. There was internet available as well as leisure activities and in - house massage. There are of course no western options at the breakfast buffet but lots of local fare. Datong itself is not much of a place being a coal mining centre but there are some significant sites of interest in the area such as Yungang Grottoes and the Hanging Temple. There is also a great new restaurant opposite the hotel with a wonderful hotpot menu and buffet. You will be comfortable at the Yue Long Hotel should you decide to visit Datong.
