Really five star. Yes! As good as any Hyatt or Marriott and this place is half the price. 598 rmb per night including breakfast for a very nice large room. Well appointed and all mod cons. Definitely will stay here again and would recommend for any western firms looking for a conference in Chongqing but on a budget. Breakfast buffet was extensive and included a reasonable amount of western fare. Mainly Chinese focused of course. 

great stay clean room. Friendly staff. Highly recommend to visit the Museum so interesting

Five star Chinese business hotel

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. Because it is meant to be an International Hotel, I somewhat thought that the staff might be able to speak English (sorry I do not speak Mandarin and was on a business trip).

On the face of it the hotel is very grand with a large and inviting lobby and that's where it stops. The staff are rude .. what i mean is that they smile and say hello etc but they lack customer service skills - maybe this is the Chinese way?

The lobby has two desks, one for checking in and one for checking out. This is not normally a problem but because I attended a conference at the hotel I checked in a day earlier, which was on a different "room rate". So the next day i had to check out and check back in in order to keep the room. Why the room could not be transferred over i'll never know. On check out I had to ask for my invoice and they also take payment without showing you a breakdown of the charges .. very odd!
I used the laundry service ... on delivery of the laundry the staff member wanted paying. I told here that I wanted the charges to be added to my room. This was obviously too much of a challenge so 20 minutes later after talking to the duty manager (I think) the staff left my room.
Breakfast is fantastic with a good buffet selection of both western food and chinese. The waiters and waitresses do a brilliant job at clearing up and re-making the tables.
The room was comfortable but needed beter sound insulation from the outside traffic and constant horns hooting. There is a good movie selection to choose from but there are no channels in English .. not even any news.

On reflection, despite all the niggly issues I would still stay here again.

Mixed feelings about this hotel

Chingqing Gangsen International hotel. 

The name of this hotel is a misnomer as it certainly is not international. No- one spoke English nor did they try or care to. Thus service was non existent. 
Rooms are modern & well appointed. Hotel is near to the airport & this would be the only reason to stay there. Rooms however are very noisy - either from street traffic - hotel faces on to major highway. Walls are quite thin and so there is a lot of hallway noise audible in the rooms. The main problem with this hotel though is the language & for a so called international hotel this is a major problem. In the restaurant we had to return to our room for the room service menu because the restaurant menu was only in Chinese & they were unable or unwilling to explain anything. When we wanted to pay for our meal they acted as if they did not know what we wanted even though we were standing at the counter. We had to get our money to show that we wanted to pay. They would not let us charge dinner to our room. Breakfast was ordinary. Checkout was like a new experience for them & took over 10 minutes. 
I would not recommend this hotel to non Chinese speaking customers.
