Stayed here for a work retreat. Stayed in the attic suite which was huge and lovely . The wood burning fireplace , the beautiful bathtub and the incredibly comfortable feather top king bed. The food at the restaurant is probably the best in Canada . Make sure to book a massage at the spa.  Can’t recommend this place enough .

We decided to break up the dreary month of November with a weekend getaway to Langdon Hall—I believe our 21st in the last 18 years. We were last there in August for a two-night stay during the final Barbecue Series event, and there were a couple of little issues with our visit. I forwarded them to the new GM, Andres Londono, and I was very impressed when he called to discuss them with me in detail. He assured me that our next stay would be flawless…and it was.

This time we chose a room in the Main House. It was sumptuously appointed and spotless, with a thoughtful welcome note and the delicious arrival amenity we’ve come to expect and enjoy from the Langdon Hall kitchen. We settled in quickly and ordered a couple of appetizers from the room service menu in advance of our dinner reservation at Wilks’ Bar.

The new(ish) decor in Wilks’ Bar and the Conservatory is pretty, but I do miss the dark, moody ambience of the Wilks’ Bar of old. Regardless, we enjoyed a delicious three-course dinner, but due to a large party in the Main Dining Room, service was quite a bit delayed. Staff was exceedingly apologetic, yet we didn’t really mind.

After dinner, we returned to the room, where turndown service had been stealthily performed, and we slept soundly in the cloud of a bed, with a blazing fire a few feet away.

Breakfast the next morning was as great as ever. I especially enjoyed the new Dutch Baby entree—so delicious (and beautiful) that I had it both days. It’s nice that espresso based drinks are now included in the breakfast package as well.

During the day we enjoyed the trails, and I drove out to the St. Jacob’s Farmer’s Market. We also made use of the gym and played cards in the front atrium with a glass of wine.

Dinner in the Main Dining Room the second night was again excellent, even with Chef Bangerter away in Europe, but there were noticeably long delays between courses. Again, without a word from us on the matter, staff apologized profusely and more than made up for the inconvenience. This kind of proactive troubleshooting is evidence of how much the Langdon Hall team really wants to make the guest experience extraordinary. They even asked if we wanted to have the fire lit in our room as we were on the dessert course, and when the meal ran long, someone returned to the room to add more wood and make sure the fire was roaring when we went upstairs.

We are already looking forward to a weekend return in February. For its bucolic setting, luxury accommodations, and the finest AAA 5-Diamond dining, Langdon Hall has no rival in Ontario.

Langdon Hall Continues to Raise the Bar

We were extremely disappointed with our recent visit to Langdon Hall (our second). The reservation and front desk staff seemed to know nothing about basic amenities and schedules at the hotel. We asked for quiet room, and were booked directly on top of a party room that had a holiday party booked. The front desk had no idea what was available in the spa (i.e. hot tub, sauna, etc). The room itself was dated with poor heating, and a heating fan that loudly went off and on all night.  We complained to the  front desk, who did nothing, and also to the supervisor in writing after we got home, who also did not provide an adequate reply (and took 6 days and a reminder email to provide any). Definitely not Relais and Chateau quality.

The staff are amazing. Friendly, helpful and kind. A family member had a personal emergency while we were there and the staff went above and beyond. Thank you.

The food was very special. The decor in beautiful and comfortable too. The whole experience was excellent.

Staff are amazing

We recently spent 2 nights at Langdon Hall. We stayed in the old, original building, which is quite charming in an old school way. The amenities and the friendly staff make it easy to not leave the grounds.  However, this is an upscale resort, and one should expect an upscale experience.   

First, the room.  It was quite nice: well furnished, with plenty of room and storage.  However, the bed with of the soft side for my wife and my taste, bordering on lumpy.  It was not a comfortable sleep.  Our sleep was interrupted by hammering sounds coming from the ceiling above us.  They were not caused by people walking (although we did hear those too), but rather sounds like doors shutting or water hammering.  We commented about the noise the next morning and were told our room was haunted:  how does one discuss alleviating noise when you are told ghosts are making the disturbance!  The next night we slept with ear plugs, but were awaken about 1 am with the smell of smoke in the room.  We called the front desk thinking perhaps there was a fire, and were told guests had built fires in their room fireplaces (this despite temperatures in the 90s F during the day).  We were offered an "air purifier," which we took: it turned out to be a plastic bucket filled with scented pellets with a fan attached.  Within a few minutes we had a room filled with a deodorant smoke smell (we returned the purifier). We were offered another room, but it was well after midnight, and we went back to bed in our room. 

The food and wine at the resort were good. We ate all our meals there.  However, the service was at times underwhelming.  The first night we were there, we had an 8 pm reservation for dinner. After being seated, we were quickly served drinks and an appetizer.  Our dinner eventually came around 10:30 pm.  At 11 pm, I went to bed without dessert, and my 3 companions said the final course arrived in time for an 11:20 departure.  This was too leisurely for a pleasant dinner.

However, I do wish to comment on the wine tasting that was held in the late afternoon.  It was provided by one of the sommeliers at the restaurant. It was enjoyable, educational, and highlight of my stay.  Also, the wine service at the restaurant was also quite good; we were provided with knowledgeable, helpful suggestions for pairing of wines with the food.

All in all, I would definitely avoid rooms on the second floor if you are at all noise sensitive.

We live 3 miles from Langdon Hall and yet it is still our "go to" place for a mini break.For the last several years we treat ourselves to a couple of nights of luxury, the in room wood burning fireplace, a great spa and most importantly amazing food! Special thanks to Sarah in the Wilks bar and Sam our dining server and of course Virg to oversee all good things in the dining area.

Langdon Hall never fails in what they do best!

As always, eating here is a wonderful experience! We went for an anniversary lunch and were treated so well. The food is so delicious and the selection of cocktails and wine is extensive. Service is excellent. The ambiance is so relaxing. For any special occasion (even if it’s just celebrating that it’s Tuesday!), this is a wonderful place to go. Thank you for helping to make our anniversary so lovely!

We loved our stay at Langdon Hall. The service was impeccable, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the restaurant was absolutely amazing. The food was comparable to Michelin quality - highly recommend the scallops & caviar, chantecler chicken, and butternut squash purée. Our room was comfortable, clean, and had a wonderful ambiance with a woodburning fire. We also had massages at the spa and both had a wonderful experience. The grounds are gorgeous as well and great for an outdoor stroll.

We returned to Langdon Hall over the Thanksgiving weekend for the first time since January for our umpteenth visit. We were impressed with the recent renovations undertaken by the Sarah Richardson Design team--Wilks' Bar, the sunroom, the solarium, and the parlour have been totally transformed with lighter, brighter colours and cheery fabrics.  

Aside from some physical changes, we were pleased that the exceptional service and extraordinary food and beverage options were as good as always. We enjoyed two delicious breakfasts (totally a la carte now), two magnificent dinners, and some delicious room service treats.

One change we were disappointed by is the lackluster welcome amenity. In the past. we used to receive a half bottle of wine, a delicious treat from the kitchen, a welcome note, and a refrigerator stocked with complimentary San Pellegrino sodas. Now there is just the 1/2 bottle of wine and a generic, pre-printed welcome card. We've stayed at three other Relais & Chateaux hotels in the last year, and the welcome amenities there were much more special and personalized.

During our stay we enjoyed hiking the trails, lounging around reading, and exploring the (insanely crowded) St. Jacob's Farmer's Market. It was nice to see some familiar faces in the dining room, but there were a number of new faces too, some of whom are still getting used to their roles/duties, I think. This is the case with the hospitality industry in general right now.

We look forward to returning for a weekend during the Christmas season to enjoy the decorations and relax by the many roaring fires. How lucky we are to have a world class Relais & Chateaux property like Langdon Hall within an hour's drive of our home!

Gorgeous Recent Renovations!

Langdon Hall is a lovely, relaxing inn where couples and friends gather.  Service is impeccable, attentive and friendly without being overbearing.  Services including the spa were top notch.  Good walking and hiking trails.  And the food, was delicious and beautifully prepared, especially the new fall menu (we stayed two nights and they switched from summer to fall menu for dinner).  Overall 5 out of 5!  I will be back.
