Castel Sainte Marie

******A WARNING: It isn't a hotel, & there aren't always staff on the premises. I arrived at about 5.30pm, & the place was empty & in darkness. There was a number to call, posted on the door. When I rang, the lady spoke no English; & I don't speak French. Somehow I managed to communicate that I was at the Castel; & she drove over & let me in. So: don't arrive too late, & don't book last minute - they may not see your reservation if you do. This accommodation is in a restored part of a castle, on a hill above the town of Beauraing. It's about a 10 minute walk from the town centre, & seems to be operated by the Catholic sanctuary (Belgium's version of Lourdes). It has been restored recently. While they could have made this place into a 5 star hotel, they chose instead to make it a simple guesthouse. It's clean & comfortable. Mostly modern furnishings, with a few antiques; white walls, with a few feature walls in contemporary colours. The breakfast is good. The building is very charming, as is the location. My room had a view of gardens, with a view of the town below, through trees. A beautiful, musical bell rang frequently. It's in the midst of parklands/woods; you could spend hours exploring. Heating in the rooms didn't work too well on a cold winter's night. But I was OK with extra blankets.
