Sunshine Coast Holiday Resort

We travelled from hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast after a family wedding up to the much more laid back and uncrowded Sunshine Coast where we rented an Airbnb minutes from the beach in Mt. Coolum. This is one of several beachside suburbs, each having its own personality, shops, restaurants, and scenic views and beach access. We were warned ahead of time to be careful when going to any beach on the coast and we are grateful. We encountered hundreds of blue bottles (Portuguese Man of War jelly fish) on the beach, probably brought in by the wind/currents/waves caused by the weather that came down from cyclone Marcus. Fortunately none of us stepped on any! The beach is beautiful and the surf is wild. No lifeguards here! No swimmers or surfers here either. The road we drove from Mt. Coolum up as far north as Noosa Heads is in great condition, curvy, hilly and offers sneak peeks at the Pacific. Just beautiful! Up in Noosa, we wound our way through town and parked in the beach parking lot. We spent a couple hours on the beach, jumping and diving in the impressive surf, body surfing, and watching the surfing contest off to the east. We even saw a surfer rescued by two life savers. This beach is in a large cove, more protected than others south of there, and has the red and yellow swimming flags with lifesavers who scan the area for the dangers: jellies, rip tides, and sharks. The town has a neat vibe and many trendy shops and eateries. We highly recommend checking the Sunshine Coast’s seaside towns and beaches!
