This was my first time staying at this hotel (I usually stay elsewhere when I come to Valdez for work). The front desk staff is great so there is that.  Very helpful and polite and courteous.  Kudos to you all!  The rooms, however...

The first room they put me in was handicap accessible with a shower that would have poured water all over the floor so they were nice enough to upgrade me to an "Executive King".  This was top floor with a small kitchenette. 
To start, the toilet was broken which I did not know until I used it so that was gross. Maintenance fixed it quickly though. I ran out of toilet paper and there was not any extra in the room. No kleenex, no bath mat, bath towels were old and ratted, only had one small bar of soap which I guess was for both the sink and the shower, and the bed pillows were flat. Also, the room was very hot and no way to control the thermostat.  (I was pre-warned at the front desk about the room temperature issue and there was a fan provided.)
I think the funniest thing was that the only phone in the room was a wall mounted phone.... in the bathroom! I guess executives like to multi-task? Luckily, the television worked and I will say that the water out of the tap was nice and cold.
They have a restaurant but it was closed due to staffing shortages. 
I had not stayed in this hotel previously and while it is definitely better than another Valdez hotel I once stayed at (will not name), it was not a hotel that I would choose again unless there was not another option.



Well, it beat sleeping in the car!

Lobby smells like a dumpster.  The room seemed mostly clean which was a bonus . My biggest complaint was that there is no tv. I called the front desk the guy that answered the phone said he told the cable company to go suck rocks. Would have been nice if they let me know before I checked in that there was no tv. Seems like who ever is running this place is letting it go down hill.

What no tv?

We had to pick this place, because of the only availability in Valdez. It was a typical hotel. Nothing fancy, just to stay, take a rest and hit the road the next morning.
We were very tired, so we've slept well. Because of "white nights" in June, good thing was that windows had a double blinds, so the light didn't bother us during the night.
Unfortunately, the ice machine was out of order, so I had to go to the nearest store to buy it.

If there is no other option, yes, you can stay there.

Typical stay

We stayed at this place for 2 nights, towards the end of our Alaska tour of 3 weeks. The booking was easy and the check in was fast. Missi at the desk was very pleasant and helpful. 
However, the hotel itself needs major overhauling. The carpets in the corridors have probably not been cleaned since they were installed. A powerwash with a carpet cleaner at the very least, if not replacement. I had to dust the room with antiseptic wipes before I could use or put anything on the table/desk and rest my head on the bed-head. Everything was so full of dust and had not been wiped. The bathroom smelt of smoke and I reported this. I was told that it is the smoke from outside the windows. That was incorrect and I had to leave the bathroom exhaust on all night and only then the smell went away. No room has airconditioning.  Another quick tip, do not take rooms towards the back of the hotel (210 and 310 onwards). You will need to keep the windows open to be comfortable and then the noise from people smoking, drinking and having drunken brawls will keep you awake! There was a notice at check in that the hotel is out of shampoo. 

The beds were good and clean. The soap was good too (mentioned by another user as well). Everything is walking distance from this hotel so that is useful. 
Will I stay here again when in Valdez? Definitely not. The reason I gave even 2 stars is because of its proximity to Safeway and the harbour.

Not the best place in Valdez

We came to Valdez un-planned, not overnight.  I thought for a day drive and camped out fishing, but it turned out we made lots of stops on our way and did some hiking along Thompson Pass, and all the time we have that evening is looking for dinner & rest.  Got into Valdez in the evening, knowing that all hotels are booked that weekend.  I called a couple of hotels anyway to see if there were cancellations or some sort and Chase answered the call, and he told us they have 3 rooms available at the time.

Without thinking any further, we drove up, and Chase took us to look at the room, and minutes later, we checked in.  The room is clean - it's 2 full beds room, it has a fridge and a microwave, typical hotel size bathroom with a tub, amazingly the night is so quiet being the hotel next to the main street.  The price was doable for last-minute check-in.  Unfortunately, due to Covid - understandably that they are under staff, the restaurant/bar is closed, but everything else you need to go/do is within walking distance.  Safeway - coffee - dinner is all close by.

Overall, I know now that we'll stay at this hotel in the future.

I'm doing you a favor. 
This hotel quit and forgot to tell the owners. 
No one wants to be here - not even the staff. 
The owners can fix this - but the apathy is thick. 
I can't say good things about the room, the service, or the price, but the soap in the bathroom was great! I stay in hotels about three times a month, and this soap was a pleasant surprise!

The views are spectacular of mountain on either side of the hotel. The price was perfect for 2 nights, $89 a night and this place is clean! Looks like they are renovating and our room was spotless! Our beds felt new and so were the towels and bedding. They clean this place everyday all day. I would recommend staying here and not being gouged by the corporate motels in town. 

We loved it here! 

Never again in this hotel, no matter how nice the workers are, super waiter no question but you just notice how many hours they worked and don't even get to eat before them, their clothes and shoes don't really look quality, about their hourly wage I don't want to know anything at all about how it will be! I won't recommend it to anyone! I won't take any more vacation there because I won't give any more money to such a inhuman boss, everything is overpriced than vacationers and the workers get nothing!!!!!!

It's funny, it's gray, it's not worth a star

It was my 3rd time trying to post 2/5 scores on this hotel and it kept deleting my post.

Let me be clear that I don't recommend to stay at this hotel although Valdez doesn't have too many choices.

The main problems is that the carpet was too old and stink... Although it was not smelly but I am afraid to step on it..

The highlight is that the bathroom was very clean but I can't spend the whole night in the bathroom

Looks like I can't say anything bad to this hotel?

Modest but central hotel. Spacious and clean enough rooms. Average bathroom for Alaska; staff not particularly friendly but not rude; rather mediocre breakfast if you don't just eat eggs and bacon;
