The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The room and bed very comfortable. An easy walk down to the town, restaurants and ferry, uphill on the return journey.

The proprietor, Clive, met us promptly and cheerfully. He informed us about the guest house stay. Our room was spacious with a wonderful view of the town and the islands. The appointments were appreciated and there were plenty of electrical outlets for your modern electronics. The town was an easy walk down and everything from restaurants, the ferries, and sights of interest were accessible by foot. The walk back up, was not difficult but would provide some much needed exercise. The breakfast was well executed, tasty, and cheerfully served. Conversation with other guests was comfortable and optional. We stayed for three nights and recommended your consideration of the Hawthornbank Guest House.

We had a wonderful stay at The Hawthornbank Guest House. Karin and Clive were down to earth, friendly hosts who always were eager to help with any questions, inquiries or requests we had. Our three night stay was phenomenal. The rooms were clean, quiet and spacious with all the neccessary amenities. We could see the port of Oban from our rooms, which was a nice addition. There was a great selection of breakfast options like pancakes, full English(eggs, bacon, toast with beans), toast with salmon, yogurt and porridge. We enjoyed the the generous portions of food and everything tasted great. It is centrally located, with a 10 minute or so walk to the centre of Oban where many shops and restaurants are. Overall, we reccieved great hospitality and enjoyment of our stay at the Hawthornbank Guest House. We definetly reccomend this place if you visit Oban.

We had a very pleasant stay. The hosts gave us a warm welcome, got us settled into our clean and spacious room, and then they told us how to use a backyard shortcut to turn a 10-minute walk into a 5-minute walk for getting downtown.  It's common for guests to have tickets for group excursions to explore nearby islands, so the hosts flexibly allow every guest to sit for breakfast at the same time (if requested).  That was a relief for me. We could enjoy our breakfast without being stressed about getting to our ferry at the appointed time.  It also meant we had a chance to meet and talk with the other house guests as well as our hosts.  The breakfast was filling and delicious, and there were several options. Our room was quiet and warm; we slept well. Our room looked out over the bowling lawn. There were always people playing, practicing, relaxing, or tending the grounds. (Bowling is a quiet sport, so the action didn't bother us.)  The parking lot, although conveniently located,  is very tight by American standards. There is technically one car-lot spot for each guest room, but each driver has to enter and exit very, very slowly to avoid collisions in and outside the parking lot.  The town of Oban is fun. There are lots of choices for places to eat; we had beautiful sunsets.  We would stay here again.

Absolutely fabulous well presented Guest House in Oban. Clive the owner was extremely accommodating and all the team were polite and engaging. The cleanliness was 5 star throughout and the breakfast was fabulous. We will be recommending to friends and would have no hesitation in booking in the future.

Warm welcome from start to finish of our stay.   Bed was super comfy. Breakfast was superb and property well situated from town which is a couple of minutes walk.    Beautiful and well looked after property.     Great homemade shortbread and made to feel at home

From the lovely welcome we knew this was going to be a great place to stay.  Hawthornbank Guest House is very close to all that Oban has to offer, easy to walk directly into town, but it is also really quiet, situated on a little used road, opposite the bowling green.  Clive and Karin were welcoming and informative hosts.  The room was quiet and clean with all that we needed for a two night stay.  We wanted to catch an early ferry to Mull and Clive provided a great packed breakfast/lunch as we were leaving before breakfast was served.  The following morning we had breakfast there and it was really great.  Plentiful selection of cereals, yoghurt etc and we had the full Scottish breakfast and the scrambled eggs with salmon, both were superb!  Lovely to chat to Clive and Karin, they make time to talk to guests, which is really nice.  Would highly recommend, thank you!

Well positioned B&B with sea views and short walk to the esplanade. Large, comfortable, quiet, clean room. Friendly, helpul owner, Great breakfast. Free parking. Slightly mre expensive than average, but worth it.

A really lovely, welcoming hotel centrally situated in the town. Excellent standard of cleanliness with friendly, attentive and informative hosts. We stayed in the Victorian room which had the most beautiful sea view of Oban’s charming bay. Delicious, freshly cooked breakfasts with a good range of choices to suit every palate. A real gem in the heart of Oban. 

Position is great for ease of walking access to town centre amenities but so peaceful at night. Hosts were attentive and the accommodation and breakfast were great... bed was large and semi firm which made for a great night's sleep.... recharged for our continued journey the next day! Thanks

A gem in the heart of Oban

This bed and breakfast was a real treat. The staff were all very helpful and informative. We had a wonderful view of the harbor and it was just a short walk into town and to the ferry. My husband had the hearty Scottish breakfast both days and I loved the porridge and continental breakfast. We had the Victorian room on the second floor which had wonderful antique furniture. Would definitely recommend.

Two days in Oban

Hawthornbank is well located in a quiet residential area of Oban. It is exceptionally clean and the bed was very comfortable and room a very good size with couch. It’s a small but clean and serviceable ensuite shower room. From a solo traveller perspective, it’s not the best value for money at £144 a night for room via booking.com as no single occupancy discount. This is not apparent on booking.com. Given factors like one less breakfast to make, I appreciate when there is a discount on the occasions I’m solo travelling. It struck home that prices due to cost of living and energy are impacting the sector. Previously this type of  price point would have had luxury additions. This is a very good, comfortable, pleasant, exceptionally clean bed and breakfast but not got the additions that put it into top bracket which luxury price would suggest. Room 2 is ground floor and looks onto back of building and guest house car park- not towards the bay. It’s quiet, overlooking bowling green and quiet road. It’s also on ground floor and next to breakfast room and hosts’ office, so there are intermittent enquiries you can hear very clearly when in room. It was quiet in general though beyond folk checking in and very quiet at night. The breakfast caters for vegetarians and vegans, and the hosts were catering for another resident with gluten allergy so were very sensitive to diet requests. This is the most I’ve ever paid for a b and b, so this is reflected in my comments. 

Pleasant and clean b&b but no solo traveller discount

Stayed 2 nights at Hawthornbank. Located in a quiet neighborhood with onsite parking. 
There is a self service laundromat at the Esso filling station about 4 mins drive away. The B&B is very close to town (3-4 mins walking) but it is uphill when coming back so seniors or people with mobility issues may have challenges.
Ian was a great host with lots of good information. The breakfast room was large and spacious. Although breakfast is 8-9am, the hosts were kind enough to provide me with an early "bag" breakfast on a day that I had to leave for a day tour. 
I had a single room on the ground floor and it was quite spacious and spotless. Definitely recommend this B&B.

Great find in Oban

We were fortunate to find this lovely B&B in Oban for a visit in October.  It has a stunning location overlooking the harbor and is just a short stroll down to the main part of town with shops and restaurants.  Our room was at the back and was very quiet .  The bed was very comfortable, the shower works well and we enjoyed our stay.  Another plus is that there is on-site parking available, not always easy to find in Oban.  Breakfast each morning is continental style and served very nicely.  We had ample choice and the hosts could not have been any nicer. This is a well run, reasonable and comfortable place to base yourselves while touring Oban and the area.
