I have stayed here on & Off & even time before "COVID-19" It hasn't changed much now? dueing the pandemic!! NO FOOD, NO ROOM CLEANING ( ok covid restritions ). But it does Not Compare inANY SHAPE? SIZE or FORM, to the BIG NAMES? :- PREMIER INN. HOLIDAY INN. TRAVEL LODGE. BEST WESTERN. McURE HOTELS. & any other big name you can think off!! It is only worth being a place where the local council pay for people to stay?? The wayfs & strays? Homeless..& not forgetting the "Plant Grwers" ( wink wink ) & it would also do for female paid work.....if you know what i mean.  The WHOLE TERRACE of which the cliffton is part of? I have found out is nearly 300 yrs old??.....So if the country? & the world? get to come back to a Good Health condition?  People in the UK? or local East Midland people?? Please don't book a stay @ "The Ciffton Hotel, 11 Terraced rd, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. NG18 2BP.

SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN

Unfortunately when we arrived we couldn't get in despite ringing the doorbell.  Eventually the lady arrived and to be fair was very apologetic. This place looks pretty awful from the outside but to be honest our stay was generally quite pleasant, with friendly staff and a tasty breakfast. The whole place seems rather 'tired' but if I were to return to Mansfield (unlikely) I would stay here again.

Don't be too put off by the external appearance!

Mansfield doesn't appear to be a town geared for tourists and the relevant lack of town centre hotels means there will always be a place for somewhere like the Clifton Hotel. Unfortunately the Clifton Hotel requires work. A lot of work.

Location was great, a slow 10 minute walk from the train station. Granted the hotel is in a residential area and perhaps restricted somewhat in what they can do but everybody knows first impressions are important and in this case first impressions are far from good. A dark and dreary exterior and a locked front door don't make for the best of welcomes. 

The interior isn't much better with ripped wallpaper and stains. A bit of TLC would work wonders.

I had a single room. It wasn't the biggest but I didn't need much space. The bathroom however could best be described as compact. The bed was fairly comfortable so no real complaints there. The room was incredibly warm and the desk in front of the window made it extremely difficult to get at the window to open it.

Staff were friendly, as was the giant daddy-long-legs living in the bathroom. I didn't bother with breakfast so can't comment on the food.

Maybe the lack of town centre competition has the owners feeling somewhat complacent, but a bit of work would make a world of difference to this hotel.

Limited options

If you need somewhere to stay in Mansfield just find somewhere else. I have nothing positive to say about this place at all. Reminiscent of a doss house this “hotel” is in need of a total refit and some decent cleaning staff. They also need to address the smell of stale smoke and grease that permeates the building. 


Best Avoided

We only stayed here one night. Staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the room was very dated, handles missing from drawers, stains on carpets and walls, dirty bathroom. Breakfast was decent. Walking distance to town centre and plenty of space for parking.

I found The Clifton Hotel on line and it was a reasonable price.  The hotel is an older hotel and there is no lift however the kind lady carried my case up to the second floor.  The room was very clean with a television and a good supply of tea, coffee milk etc.  Breakfast was amazing a good supply of different cereals fruit youghurts and a full english breakfast.  The staff were very friendly and the hotel was located in a good position and not too far from shops etc.

Reasonable and Clean

we have just spent one night at this hotel to spend some time with our granddaughter who is at the dance academy in Mansfield .the room was clean and tidy and the hosts could not do enough for us, breakfast is one of the best we have had in this country and we go away once a month. we have booked to go again in June and are looking forward to it

over night stay

We were shown to our twin room, which was so cramped that if we'd put our bags on the floor we'd have needed to step over them. But what hit us first was the suffocating heat, from a wall-to-wall radiator with no heat control. The manager said she'd turn the heating off centrally but this made no difference. Another problem was the en-suite bathroom, not only cramped and shabby but with no air conditioning or ventilation. So we asked for a different room, and were offered a "single", which turned out to be a twin room which, though a bit shabby, was adequate and offered a lot more space. But the electric shower, which worked initially, started to run cold and didn't respond to the temperature control. Breakfast was mediocre.
We did at least manage to sleep, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, but we won't be visiting again.

In need of some maintenance and refurbishment

The B&B is located near the centre of Mansfield and does not create any problems in finding food or parking. The breakfast and hospitality offered by the managers are excellent. The rooms are spacious and clean. All in a simple structure and in some parts in need of maintenance.
