I stayed here for 2 nights on the 20th and 21st of Jan.2020 my arrival was considerably later than planned,  yet this posed no problems at all to Ray and Wendy the lovely couple who built up this property over the past decade and a half. I was on SA for a conference and needed some items dropped shipped which they received on my behalf. Going the extra mile is what these people are all about. 
Highly recommended for anyone needing a peaceful place to get over their jet lag, recharge and head on with their trip just minutes away from King Shaka airport.

If you like relaxing in an eco-friendly environment with chilled people this is the place for you. Skillfully constructed in harmony with the natural surroundings, you can get in touch with your inner hippy here and feel the stress drain away. Wendy is also a master class cook / chef. Loved every minute of my stay.

I found Shapes of Africa after looking long and hard at accommodation near the airport. I thought it looked good from the website. However, when we arrived we were sure we had arrived at a place that we will return to. Wendy met us at the airport after we returned our hire car.  It was just a 5 minute trip down the road until we arrived in a lovely peaceful oasis. Our room en suite and perhaps one of the most expensive (still very cheap at about £30 a night)  but we walked into a rondavel with a kitchen, table and chairs. loo, shower, double bed, bunk beds and outside seated area.  The bed was very comfortable and had a mosquito net.
A quick walk up the road at sunset provided us with a viewing of thousands of swallows coming home to roost. As we returned to Shapes of Africa, we met a neighbour who was on his way to "locals' night" for some food. We then returned to the lovely smell of home cooked Mexican buffet and sat with some of the locals. One of them was a lovely man from Dorset UK, where we are from and we spent the evening with him and his wife. Our flight was early morning and Ray took us to the airport at 05:00.  Now that is amazing service. He was off fishing and happy to take us.  We would definitely return to this place. We felt welcomed as friends, rather than feeling like "customers".  We very much look forward to returning.

Took us back to our beachcomber days with the bright colours and arty caravan bedroom with adjacent en-suite. Surrounded by trees and birds the natural timber bar & dining areas are 
an oasis. The hosts and other guests were like family and the conversation stimulating

This is definitely a hidden jewel and true value for money .

I was on business and this was a unusual type of accommodation to select as it would usually be more of a holiday type accommodation however it was refreshing and relaxing and took me out of work mode in to chill mode which was incredible . Will definitely be back ! Thank you so much ! 

We stayed at Shapes of Africa for just the one night after arriving in South Africa from the UK and found Wendy and Ray to be lovely friendly hosts .
Great dinner and breakfast and lovely staff ...great to meet some of the locals too !

Nearly located to the airport!! Transport to airport is also possible or pic up from there! Much animals in free nature!! Also dinner is verry good!

Our 3rd visit to Shapes of Africa.  Good vibe, wonderful hosts.  Rustic, comfortable accommodation set in sub-tropical forest with a variety of bird life.  There were mosquitoes, but our hosts have all you need to keep the pesky blighters away!! 

Perfect accommodation in directly neighbourhood to the Durban Airport. Although you can sleep quiet and comfort because the planes don`t fly start or land at night. The owners offer a shuttle Service to the Airport for a small fee. Communal ablutions, but also nice and colourful. Lots of plants, so that we had feeling of nature. An electronic kettle would be useful

Some upgrade would be welcome, especially in the common bathroom (taps and sinks to be changed); the place is well integrated in nature and calm; the proximity of the airport is unnoticed; we recommend the place for a last night before departure.
