This place quickly feels like home. The owner is very helpful and accommodating and can offer you lots of great suggestions. The room furnishings are so beautiful - lots of attention to detail.

Couple century old apartments. Rustic and what you’d hope for in an old part of Europe.

When you visit Lisbon you can stay at a familiar, comfortable American style hotel, secure, knowing that you are sheltered from the world.  Or, since you went to the trouble of getting to Lisbon in the first place you might want to stay in a place that is Portuguese.  Last month I stayed at Family Macedo for a week.  The building was formerly a number of apartments; it has a residential as opposed to an institutional personality.  The furniture is old and carved and heavy, very much like Lisbon itself.  It was fun to be in those surroundings.  In my mind that’s why we visit places that are different from home.

The gentleman who manages the building is Antonio.  It feels like the building, certainly the furniture, has been in his family for generations. He cares about it.  Antonio was very friendly, filling me in on the history of Lisbon, finding out about my own interests, pointing me to sights that I should visit and telling me where I could get a decent meal for a decent price.  The housekeeper, Barbara, was bright and friendly, available for little chats and fanatical about making sure that the place is clean.

If you are going to Lisbon to find out what Lisbon is about, then you should stay here.



We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The BnB is in a perfect location near the trams, castle, and Alfama old town area of Lisbon. Antonio, the host, was very helpful in getting us checked in. He also gave us many useful tips for sightseeing, transportation, and dining in Lisbon. He even gave us a short tour by car when we arrived of the area near the hotel. Our room was large and well equipped for our needs, and the underground free parking was easy to access and navigate. Best of all the Bnb is loaded with character and charm -  an old Lisbon townhouse full of antique furniture. And it is very affordable! We loved our stay at the Macedo Family B&B and are very happy to recommend it to others.

Great location in Lisbon near major street that leads down to heart of historical area, ocean, etc. and walkable in 10-20 minutes. Also near metro stops, groceries, restaurants, and money exchange site. Older building,  so stairs sort of a pain to deal with, but nice bedroom, shared bathroom, and great kitchen and dining areas. Many keys needed to enter bldg, floor, and room, and while sort of annoying, at least facility felt very secure. Great hosts and cleaning crew with suggestions as to what to see in Lisbon.

The Family Maceto is run by its owner Antonio. Antonio is very helpful and has good information about the city. There are no private bathrooms but the two bathrooms are being kept very clean at all times and are conveniently located. There is a kitchen available for general use and the basics, bread, butter, coffee and marmalade are provided for all the guests.The room was comfortable and although it was on the street side, noise of the street did not bother us and was not disturbing. The place is located close to the subway and other public transportation and also within walking distance (20 minutes or so) to some of the interesting sights in Lisbon. One can find a supermarket and several decent restaurant in the direct neighborhood. Overall I would say that this is a nice basic place.
