A friend organised and planned our trip we were a family of 4 with 2 adults and two teenage kids. Great place to stay as a family and also for a couple! The accommodation was beautiful and the bedding was very comfortable! 
The onsen was also great very private and not busy we used both public and private. 
The hospitality was absolutely fantastic very friendly and helpful. 
Breakfast was a great experience although the kids didn’t eat much they still enjoyed the experience. What a great adventure I highly recommend if you want to experience a Ryokan in a quiet peaceful location!

Great Experience and hospitality 

We stayed here in the middle of our trip and we drank great wine to recharge our energies and be able to continue with the journey.

Treatment is super pleasant.

If you're visiting Japan for the first time, you can't miss the Ryokan experience. Sugimoto is perfect, all the staff are very friendly and attentive all the time. Although they don't speak much English, they make themselves understood as they can. The traditional room is highly recommended, as is the traditional dinner included in the price. I don't give them the utmost appreciation because the drink doesn't come in the price, and in fact, it's not a cheap Ryokan... rather, quite expensive... and usually exceeds much with the price of the drinks or anything else. I think that, when paying for what you pay, you should at least include a drink in the dinner. Baths are a delight, and have one to share in a couple.

It is excellent.

On the first day of our motorcycle tour through Japan, we rode from Tokyo to Matsumoto. Aside from the fantastic ride, we ended up at this great Ryokan. 

It’s quietly located on a side street and when you walk through the lobby you end up in a courtyard with lounge chairs....a fantastic place to rest and relax.

My brother and I shared a room, which was a good size and traditional. It had the main room, a dressing room and bathroom with separate shower room / onsen. They also provided you with the necessary yukatas to relax in and wear when dining. Remember, you will sleep on futons, which are comfortable but difficult to get up from if you’re ‘older’ like me. 😳

The dining experience was wonderful. A traditional Japanese meal / set menu, with beer and saki. The food was very good and the waitress spoke English, explaining everything to us.....which was a huge help!

In general, the Ryokan is really pleasant and I would not hesitate to go again.

As a side note, this is not a place to go if you’re looking to get out and enjoy the night life. It’s absolutely the place to go if you want to enjoy a quiet place and experience the Japanese culture.

Fantastic place to stay 

A little out of town but accessible by bus, this ryokan takes you from the first walk into the atmosphere of the Japanese hostels. You will be welcomed by the bosses as a family member. There is very little English there but you get to understand yourself easily. The traditional rooms are of unforgettable comfort. Little cake and welcome tea, camping socks and yukata are on the program. Meals are at fixed hours, with everything nature has to offer, so seasonal, and fresh! There is a private one can relax (but the water is too cold) and finally the public one can relax, a real one with such beauty products. The outdoor rotunda is very pleasant in the dream that you are going to eat a lot of calories, and in the dream that you will go to a wonderful place, so that you can get a good night's sleep.

The Meaning of Hospitality

We stayed a couple of nights at the Ryokan Sugimoto to experience this part of Japanese hospitality. As you'd expect, the service is outstanding and discreet, the rooms were comfortable (in the Japanese minimalist style) and the onsen was small and well maintained. The food is the real point however, a high-end multi-course meal each night and only slightly less extravagant at breakfast although not for the faint-hearted! It's expensive and if budget was stretched, one night would be enough, but well worth trying especially if it is your first time in Japan. The Ryokan is on the outskirts of Matsumoto but easy to get into town on the bus. Throw yourself into it and you will love it.

A great experience

If I could give Ryokan Sugimoto more than 5 stars I would. We spent 2 nights here and were amazed by the experience - the staff were lovely and spoke English as much as they could (which we did not expect!), the rooms were large, quiet and beautifully clean and the food was outstanding. Our room came with a private onsen style bath. The dinner consisted of a huge number of small courses which alone make the price of the accommodation well worth it - you would not be served better quality food and as much at any restaurant. Breakfast was also delicious and fresh. We even got to see the chef making soba noodles. This really was a lifetime experience and for travellers who want a traditional Japanese experience I definitely recommend staying here! 

Absolutely amazing experience!

Here the time stops. We imagine those who were received yesterday and will be received tomorrow, in all the tradition of the Japanese Ryokan. We have to document ourselves before arriving in a Ryokan, and arrive as guest travelers. Then you can appreciate and understand the welcome that is reserved for you, the onsen that awaits you, the yukatas to fill in for the evening and morning. We stayed there for six days, resting out of time and full of serenity, between Tokyo and the rest of our trip. This left us time to taste the reception of our meals, the quality of the place. We then traveled to Japan for quite a long time, the cuisine for the onsen was also the authenticity of this word, our arrivals, and the delicious food and delicious lunch that our hosts offered you.

It's even delicate!

If you calculate the worth of the fantastic dinner (and breakfast, and onsen!) this is not expensive. The onsen is beautiful (inside and outside) and the room was a real ryokan room. Perfect service. Can't believe there were no more tourists!

Absolutely worth the money

This Ryokan is located on the outskirts of Matsumoto, at the foot of the mountains and enjoys its own onsen. The customized reception (the owners) is very friendly with, for those who like, excellent jazz music in the background. A nice establishment! We occupied an apartment-like room on the top floor of the main building with a living-veranda, bedroom as well as a reception room. Onsen with typically Japanese spring water. Excellent with a beemole the microscopic bathroom-shower with access to the reception room...and a tastefully decorated room, including the high reception.
