The owners of this homestay make the experience. Kumang brought breakfast and lovely coffee each morning, Mada gave me a lift on his scooter to get a quick dinner on my first night, and you can see the care and attention to detail they put in their property, especially the beautiful garden. For the value, you get a lot and it feels very quiet, peaceful, and restful despite being so close to busy Ubud. It is a great location. We did get hot water every day although it was a little spotty sometimes and some areas of the place could use some renovating (particularly the bathroom), but we would stay there again and enjoyed our stay!

Peaceful, homey feel for great value in a good location

The owners was so lovely and friendly, they really made us feel welcome. Every morning we got breakfast delivered to our room. The breakfast varied every day and was really good. It's located in a quiet area, and 15-20 min walk from central Ubud. Would definitely go back to place, esp since the price is very good.

Great location and service!

We are currently staying at Madra Homestay (8 nights) and we couldn't be happier with this beautiful place. From the moment of arriving we have been made to feel very welcome. 

There is a traditional breakfast served every morning, hot water, clean towels, a comfy bed and the wifi is good. The people  here help in every way possible to make your stay an enjoyable one. 

Fantastic value for money, I would 100% stay here again! 


A home away from home. 

We couldn't find the homestay where we actually wanted to stay with our friends, so we ended up at Madra homestay and spent there 5 nights. It was a perfect location, absolutely beautiful hosts, lush garden with a small river in the middle and nice breakfasts. My 2,5 year old daughter enjoyed it so much, I am so grateful that we found this little gem in hectic Ubud. We had everything you could wish for to have a pleasant and memorable stay. This place is highly recommended <3

Beautiful place with lovely people

The family is a charm, the father is wonderful, he doesn't speak English but with his smile and gestures, he conveys peace and tranquility to you. But the rooms... or I've had bad luck. But it was one of the worst places I've ever stayed. The rooms have no maintenance. In the first one I stayed in. The dirty sheets, the lack of cleanliness in the bathroom, and the rats on the ceiling wanting to enter the room, changed me and the one they changed me, mattresses that sink into superrooms, dirty sheets, all the time a power switch.

The personal charmer.

The hot water never worked and the wifi was spotty but the location was great and the hosts were wonderful. Madra is perfectly located near the center of Ubud and is on the street that leads in one way to the monkey forest and in the other way the market. Every night I stayed at Madras I slept well in the quiet of the interior courtyard. The courtyard has a small river running through it with a fish pond and a beautiful patio in the middle. A great place to relax after a tiring day. The breakfasts were adequate and were always accompanied by the most delicious tea imaginable. All in all my visit was pleasant ignoring the cold water. 



Cheap. Great location

Pak Madra and Ibu Wayan are wonderfully gracious hosts. As a few reviewers have already mentioned, Pak Madra is one of Bali's most famous living painters in the traditional style. They were always happy to chat, and Pak Madra was always happy to show off his painting studio if asked. Ibu Wayan served a simple but delicious and always varied breakfast. It is a low-key place to stay, peaceful and relaxing, and traditional. The rooms were fairly simple, but pretty clean, and the bed was just fine. They are happy to let you do your own thing and won't try to sell you a tour package, a scooter rental, or music lessons, though I'm sure they could help one out with those things if asked. Their homestay is located in Peliatan, which is less than a ten minute ride from central Ubud. Conveniently, it's on the way from Ubud to Mas, Sukawati, Celuk, Sanur, Denpasar, and the other villages farther south, so you you can skip Ubud's crazy traffic if you're headed south.
