Beware with the administration of this hotel. Mercedes seems like a very nice lady when you first meet her, then the truth comes out. They completely ripped me off, stealing a total of $100. 

The issue at hand: I was going to stay with them for a total of 24 nights. Before my arrival date, I gave her personally a total of $200 out of $280, which was the total for those nights. I was supposed to come a week later after a mountaineering trip in the country. Due to personal health reasons in the mountain, I didn't come on the agreed date and subsequently visited her 5 days later explaining the sudden change of plans. At that time, we both agreed that she will give me back $130 and that I was going to basically loose $70 out of the deposit I had given her to cover her "costs" for those five days. Note that in their website they specify a policy of charging a first night when there is a "no show" just like other hotels around the world normally do. Knowing that, but feeling tired and exhausted from my recent injury, I decided not to negotiate further with her and expected $130 in return. She told me that I was gonna get a phone call when she had retrieved the money from the bank, but that phone call never came. Even though she had my phone number, she never called. So I did. When I called her she told me that she was not going to give me anything, that hotels in Ecuador don't give back deposits. I wasn't going to argue over the phone so I paid her a visit with a lawyer, the mother of one of my best friends in Ecuador. She ended up given us only $100 stating that she had miscalculated the amount she was supposed to give me. I submitted a formal claim with the Ministry of Tourism and my hope is that other tourists do not have to go through the hassle that I just went through.

I think that the administration of the hotel, whether is Mercedes or her advisors, are not to be trusted. With this experience, they showed that they don't act in good faith nor are honest people. Given the opportunity, they will rip you off and find creative ways to do so, wasting your time and going through such a process for $30.

BEWARE, THEY'LL TRY EVERYTHING TO RIP YOU OFF! WORST EXPERIENCE

I emailed & called the hotel to confirm that the shuttle I ordered would arrive at the airport! Especially because I was getting in close to midnight....& I do not speak Spanish....& w/o a phone that works in Ecuador! It became obvious the hotel did not order me one. I was left to fend for myself in a foreign County not speaking the language.....& found out the hotel was not 1/2 hr. away as told by (Expedian?) but one hour away. A taxi driver called the hotel & they sd yes it is ok to let him drive me there. Good thing I brought the Ecuadorian # for the hotel with me or who knows how long I might have been waiting for a shuttle from the hotel. Once I arrived the lady was very nice. I ask for wine & gave her a $5 bill she poured me one tall glass & took it to my room on a tray. Nice gesture...but expensive for one glass I thought. The nxt morning breakfast was amazing!  & In a very sunny cute space with little round tables. I recommend these fine ladies...& their clean & cute hotel....just make sure you know how you will be getting to the hotel. Some of the taxi drivers looked a bit shady.

My stay was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was ok to me. Good attention. One thing to improve is the quality of the WiFi.

Couple of days in Quito

I arrived here on recommendation, a small but very comfortable hostel I felt at home. The Mrs Remedios who was very kind and kind to me at all times I felt at home. Includes breakfast during the week. But Friday to Sunday no, but you can use the kitchen. The rooms with very comfortable and clean beds. The impeccable hygiene services. They have WiFi. It is a very quiet place to relax peacefully.

This is a small, spotlessly clean and very comfortable guest house in the La Floresta suburb of Quito. It was the childhood home of Mercedes, the owner and host, and she still lives there. She has done an imaginative conversion of the garage to make the guest accommodation. There are a couple of rooms at street level, together with a sofa and some small tables and chairs. There are more rooms downstairs and a cosy sitting area.

I had a real awareness of being in someone's home. Mercedes is quiet, friendly and hospitable. She offered us a cup of herbal tea in the evening. Breakfast was aimed at the US market - including pots of sweetened fruit yogurt. I would have preferred something a little more Ecuadorean, but maybe, sadly, this is how the world is going.

Whether you are staying for just a night or perhaps a month or more, this is a home away from home.

A home away from home

I've been living here for a month. A very nice place in a quiet forest area. Surrounded by cafes and small restaurants, nothing is far from it except by bus or taxi. The establishment is very tidy, very clean and the staff always with little care. Breakfast changes every day and is very good. My room is a nice space as well as the bathroom. A small balcony adds to this one, it bears the number 3. The sheets and towels are changed regularly as well as the decoration of the bed. You come to Quito and don't want to spend too much to stay....please don't hesitate.

Sleeping away from the noise

Front desk staff not really nice.   They want to control you.  I was told that good people should be back early.  It seems like they think they are making you favour instead than goving a service.

Awfull

The place is clean but I encountered several problems. The noise from the shower in the room next door was loud. The chair was extremely uncomfortable meaning working at my computer was difficult. The owner was extremely rude. She told me not to get drunk, even though I do not drink. She accused me of exercising loudly outside in the middle of the night even though I was asleep all night. She lied in the morning and told me at 9am that checkout was at 10am, and denied that the hotel website says checkout is at 1pm, which it does. I don't like that she makes me leave my key in a box on her desk before leaving as that invites theft; I would much rather keep possession of my own key. When I said I don't eat eggs at breakfast she got mad at me even though I said it was not a problem if they didn't have a substitute. So if you like a high stress and low privacy place, this is for you; otherwise find somewhere else to stay.

I don;t recommend it

This is a wonderful little hotel in a safe neighborhood. The hostess is an extremely friendly and helpful lady who makes you feel at home. The breakfast is delicious! The rooms are clean and modern. Highly recommend staying here!

Lovely little hotel!

Small hostel in a quiet neighborhood. Mercedes is great! She will make sure your stay is comfortable and is great at giving you tips about Quito.  The hostel is about a 10-15 minute walk to the Mariscal. It's in a safe neighborhood.
