Lucky Bug B & B

A friend recommended this B&B and I am so glad I could experience it.  The warmth of the hosts is unmatched.  The setting is beautiful and the price is right!  
We enjoyed a relaxed, delicious breakfast overlooking their pond.  Located in the midst of the Cost Rican greenery, the longer you look, the more you see.  Don't rush through but enjoy the beauty right there. 
The gift shop offers well selected offerings not seen in every tourist shop around.  
Wifi was good and accommodations very comfortable.  Note for some - there is not ac.  I am not a fan of ac so it is fine for me but some people may be surprised.

I cannot tell you exactly how many times I’ve stayed at the Lucky Bug on Lake Arenal! 10-15 times? Staying at the Lucky Bug simply feels like coming home. The rooms are clean and comfortable, & tastefully decorated with handmade art throughout. The owner/hosts, are always warm and welcoming. The art gallery onsite is the perfect place to shop for special souvenirs and home decor, all handmade in Costa Rica. The artistic items for sale are so unique, unlike other tourist shops which all carry the same items. The breakfast, included with your overnight stay, is generously proportioned and so delicious, even groups of local workers in the area stopped in for a bite while we were there.  The small lake and tropical gardens on the property are worthy of a visit themselves! With so many options for accommodations around Lake Arenal, the Lucky Bug is a stand out choice!

What a gem! 
What was to be random stop for lunch after windsurfing, turned to be delicious dinner with desert. Apple strudel of course  
So peaceful. So tastefully decorated. We had a view of the lake with 2 iguanas on the tree and hummingbirds flying around. 
What a great food !

Oh my goodness! We stopped here for lunch on the way to the airport in Liberia and were blown away by the beautiful atmosphere and outstanding food! We were able to buy real locally made pottery pieces in the craft store then settled in for the most authentic German food we have ever eaten. The homemade slices of corn beef on the Reuben sandwich were half an inch thick and the sauce, homemade sauerkraut and black bread all culminated to create the best Reuben sandwich I’ve ever had. Of course after such an incredible meal we had to finish it off with the warm homemade apple strudel. This is a must stop!!

A lovely room and property, just outside of Nuevo Arenal.

What a wonderful, wonderful B@B. We were there Feb.7-Feb.8. with our neice and husband. Unfortunately we only stayed one night. Next year we will spend more time. Monica and Rob are very welcoming hosts and even opened up the restaurant for us for dinner. Delicious food!!! {breakfast included}
The rooms are very clean with comfy beds. You can tell that Monica has put a lot of thought and effort into decorating the rooms with authentic Costa Rican articles.
The grounds are spectacular with so many different plants, bushes and trees. It was wonderful to walk around the pond and discover something new around every corner.
There is a gift shop with genuine Costa Rican pottery, soaps etc.. 
Don't miss out going to this lovely place. You will feel welcomed, you will be surrounded by beauty and the sound of birds, you will sleep like a log and on top of all of that, it comes with a reasonable price. Ann {Patricia}and Jim H.

Hosts Monica and Rob go above and beyond. Monica is a very gifted chef. Everything was perfect. Great birdwatcing, even took a couple of refreshing dips in tbeir pond.

Lucky Bug was a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The host greeted us warmly as he showed us to our room. The artistic touches in the room and on the grounds mirrored tactfully much of the external natural beauty of the place. The stars were beautiful upon our arrival (which may not be the norm) and the music of nature chorused loudly changing its tune to silence in the middle of the night to  a new chorus of birds as the night progressed to day. The balcony of our room was a great place to sit and birdwatch while waiting for breakfast time. The food was fantastic and the view from the opposite side of the pond was also lovely. The service was warm and welcoming.  We arrived by the  road from La Fortuna after dark. There are no lines on the narrow serpentine road making it a bit of a stressful night drive. By day the same road had many lovely views.

This was a wonderful find. The property is well maintained and very beautiful. The staff is courteous. The food was really good. We had massage and that was also fantastic. I would recommend.

A charming place to stay. Loved it! Air conditioning is the only thing I wish it had.

Peaceful Retreat

We had a wonderful time at the Lucky Bug. Very clean , cozy, attention to details makes this B&B a place we would return any time. A beautiful tropical garden is surrounding . Rob was a great host available at any time and making sure we have everything we needed. Breakfast was very good, served on a terrace with an amazing view , lots of Hummingbirds and Iguana on the tree. We just loved everything !

An amazing place for nature lover !

Arrived at Caballo Negro to explore more of Arenal and what a beautiful restaurant located along with the Lucky Bug B&B.
Beautiful outside sitting, as well as inside. We sat and watched the hummingbirds drinking on the 5 feeders, while waiting for our breakfast order as we drank our coffee. And passion fruit drinks. 
My brother ordered Eggs Ranchero and I Corned Beef hash and eggs.
Both were incredible and made from scratch by Monica the chef and owner. 

Caballo Negro is a must try

Lovely unique property.  Needs better lighting and needs to give better check in directions. Most obvious place labeled “Lucky Bug” was  dark and locked -turns out this was breakfast place/restaurant and souvenir shop. B and B was down the road and not well marked in the dark ( my flight was cancelled and I arrived later than planned, just at dark. I sent a message but got no response)My room was advertised as “lake view” -turned out it was not Lake Arenal, but a pond on the property. Owners/ staff were very nice, and assisted with luggage which was great since I had been up all night at airport.

Our family of three (2 adults and one six year old) stayed at Lucky Bug B&B for one night in April on our way from LIR airport to La Fortuna to break up our travel day. We selected the B&B based on other reviews and we were so glad we did. Check-in was easy and quick; we were greeted by Monika, Rob, and their cats and dog (which my son loved!). We were able to park our car right next to the B&B, which is set back away from the main road and through a gate that is closed to those not staying at the B&B. We lucked out since we were the only ones staying that evening; it was very peaceful and the property is beautiful. It felt like a private oasis. We spent walking around looking at the flowers and plants and the pond on the property in the evening and again in the morning. It felt like we were far away from anyone and everything. Our stay in the sun-suite was perfect for us, as there was a big bed and then two other beds, a small kitchen, and living area to spread out. We enjoyed coffee in the room and on the patio in the morning before going to breakfast. In the morning, we had a fresh homemade breakfast with fruit, eggs, toast, and juice and coffee overlooking the pond and with hummingbirds flying nearby. A wonderful experience and we would stay here again, and recommend to anyone else in the area! :)

A duck on the property provided some entertainment to my son, and Monika let my son feed the duck, which he was happy about, too. We were sad to leave; my son asked if we could stay "so many nights" at Lucky Bug, but we had to be on our way. Thank you so much to Monika for her hospitality and for providing a comfortable, peaceful, and all-around lovely start to our trip. Would stay here again :)
