Xiamen Enfan Hotel

Fengyi Hotel is situated on the 18th floor of a 30-story modern Chinese block of flats, which is conveniently located in Xiamen city centre, just half-way between two BRT stops (火车站 Xiamen Railway Station and 莲坂站 Lianban Station), in the area with many Chinese bars, grocery shops and western style restaurants (McDonalds, KFC, Starbucks). The building is easy to identify If you took minimum effort to see it in the picture. It’s not true that the hotel is not marked - on the booking confirmation I found the number of the floor - it’s quite obvious that since they occupy only one of 30 floors, and there are other similar hotels on other floors, they couldn’t put a big rooftop sign “Fengyi hotel”. Ladies at the reception hardly spoke any English but made no problems with checking us in earlier (free of charge) and checking out in the evening (paid half price). During our stay in Xiamen we stayed there for two times, for the first time we were given a room overlooking the main Xiahe Road, for the second time we got a room overlooking lateral street (Banwei Road?), the same from which you enter the building. We found the room overlooking Banwei Road slightly better - it had cleaner balcony with better view, and most importantly it received slightly less noise from the busy Xiahe Road. On the other hand the room overlooking Xiahe Road was equipped with a fridge (working!) and a desktop computer (that we didn't use). It's very important to notice that both rooms were big and clean (were cleaned every day) and both had sturdy, almost soundproof windows (so noise is an issue as long as you keep your balcony door open). The wifi was so-so, only during the first stay I managed to make a Skype phone call (but poor internet could have been caused by the Great Firewall). Beds were big, with clean white bed linen, but we found them surprisingly hard. For the price that we paid (170 CNY per room per night) it seemed a good deal!
