Chongqing South Garden Hotel

This is a chinese 3-star hotel; i was told this before hand and thought it would be better than what it is - note however i have given it a four point good rating. I was offered the choice by the company i was visiting to stay here or at the sofitel. The price for this one was less than 300rmb; it was for two nights (and the company was literally in the next building). The hotel is old, the room is old and tired, the mattress is hard and so are the pillows, the internet is free and slow, breakfast is adequate (chinese only, but with a fresh egg station), no room safe, no english TV channels on an old CRT TV, no english with the staff, no room service, air conditioning was spotty. But all that said it is what it is, and worth the price. The area has a plethora of restaurants, but mostly chinese (and probably no picture menu); there is a supermarket right on the street level below the hotel and can get everything from there, also some chinese style fast food stalls selling roast chicken etc where you don't need to speak anything, just point! I'd probably try the sofitel next time, however wouldn't pass this one up either.
