I stayed recently here for one night only on a business trip. I have to say the hotel is well located, close to Tambaú beach, which is supposedly a popular location in João Pessoa. The best thing about this hotel is that it is home to a suprisingly good portuguese restaurant with a very nice wine list, something I never expected to find in a place like this. There was even somebody banging away old standards on a piano next to the bar. So if you're a foreigner and for some reason you feel the urge to have a gin and tonic in an air-conditioned ambiance, this is it. But what is this hideous cleaning product that they use to clean the rooms? Smells like the cheapest toilet disinfectant possible. All in all, not bad, but not good.

What's that smell?

Stayed here for 3 nights. On the first evening, we arrived and popped out for an evening dinner. When we returned, 250 brazilian reals of 800 in the wallet had been taken from a wallet left on the counter. The next evening, we arranged a few items specifically and left a wallet on the counter with money inside. Sure enough, items had all been moved/searched through (and of course the money was taken). On our last evening, we went outside and one of our friends had a cigarette, so we observed exactly what the night staff do - they wait until you leave the hotel room, and the second you leave - one of the three staff grabs towels, and goes upstairs. They use the cameras to ensure no one is heading back to their room - and then they quickly search through the room looking for cash presumably. 

Otherwise, the hotel was fine. A good breakfast provided, the room was clean. We did not try the restaurant outside of breakfast, but it has good reviews. Good roof top pool as well, and the hotel is in close proximity to the beach. Staff do not speak any English, but this is quite normal in this region of Brazil.

Anyway, a decent place to stay if you are in the area and need a hotel, but you must use the safe. Moreover, you must be comfortable with the idea of your things being searched through the minute you leave the room (again - night staff only, this never happened in the day).

Not sure if other guests have had the same experience, but hopefully this review can alert the owners who can investigate and take appropriate action if needed.
