Les Trois Poulets

Looking for a nice B&B stopover within easy distance of both Maastricht and Liege we booked Les Trois Poulets directly with the owners. Communication was always clear and speedy. The house is located at the end of a quiet street with lovely views over the valley from the rear garden and about 15 minutes walk up a steep winding lane from the town of Vise - not the easiest place to find but a real gem when you do. Our room was located at the front of the house overlooking the garden and contained a gorgeous antique desk and wardrobe and a large modern comfortable bed. Beautifual home made sculptures and paintings decorate the communal areas and everything is spotless. The bathroom is located directly next door to the bedroom with a fantastic wet room and sink area whilst the toilet is located downstairs off the main hallway. During our stay we had sole use of these facilities though Im not sure whether this would always be the case if other guests were staying. Their clientele is mainly Dutch and Belgian and we were actually their first ever visitors from the UK!. Our welcome however could not have been warmer and our hosts, Rita and Jos, were some of the friendliest we have ever met. After settling in to our room on arrival, we were invited to join them in their beautiful garden, chatting with them in the evening sunshine over a drink and watching the free range chickens that give the place its name. After a good nights sleep, breakfast on both days was excellent both in terms of quality and quantity with "home produced" eggs, local freshly baked breads, ham, cheese, fruit, yoghurt and sweet treats. They were both also very happy to spend time with us chatting about our plans for the day and offering advice and ideas as to the local area. Vise is a pretty little town on the river with some great restaurants and bars. Our trip to Maastricht was straightforward (EUR6.75 return per person) with regular trains from Vise station about 25 mins walk away and then just 20 mins on the train. Trains to Liege are equally easy although we didnt actually do this trip in the end. Overall I would thoroughly recommend Les Trois Poulets, both as a one night stopover or as a base to explore the local area. Thank you to both Rita and Jos for a wonderful stay!
