Huynh Lac Hotel Can Tho

This hotel was included in a Mekong Delta Tour package. It is located just a short walking distance from the famous street market, boat dock, and riverboat restaurants. The neighborhood is not particularly nice and there are better streets with other accommodations, but this is a good low-budget choice. Yet no matter where you stay in Can Tho, you cannot avoid the dark cloud of racist hate that permeates this city. Check-in ease was average considering I have a Viet fiancee and the tour guide stressed how the locals detest interracial relationships of the Viet to Caucasian kind. The hotel is dated and at first glance of the lobby I thought "What the hell have I gotten myself into?" My worry subsided when I got to my room. The room was very clean and well-maintained. The room had a unique ambiance with a boutique-style feel to it. The bathroom was fully functional. The bed was of average comfort. No critters anywhere as far as I could see. Shower separate from the toilet and sink as I prefer (not all Viet hotels are this way but most modern ones are). The room was not a large room and just big enough for two beds (we are after all unmarried) with a small table, and an armoire. Cozy for certain. The hotel was quiet (we were on the 3rd floor) except for a fire alarm triggered by some fool smoking in his room. Breakfast was solid. Tasty but a slightly smaller than average portion size. We had omelets and fresh French bread with cream cheese. We each ordered extra food not included in the package price (it only ran a couple of dollars extra). The iced milk coffee was very delicious. Warning about Can Tho: The locals (including the police) are enraged when they see an Asian with a Caucasian. If you are faint at heart and cannot take the angry stares and rude comments, Can Tho may not be for you. I simply hugged my bride-to-be tighter than ever and showered her with much affection.
