We are regular guests at the Old Shanklin and this was our first visit post lockdown.

Gareth and Sarah have gone to great lengths to adapt the property post Covid to make it feel safe while still extending the consistent warm welcome we have always had..  The Covid guidance is made clear and is pragmatic considering the circumstances.  Shanklin is open for business and we had a wonderful few days eating at the local restaurants and looking in the shops.

Addiionally we took full advantage of Gareth and Sarah's new shop, 'I'ts About Thyme', from the homemade vegetarian picnic, the piccilli and of course the truly excellent orange and lemon marmalade.

We stayed at the Old Shanklin Guest House in March, just prior to lockdown and would highly recommend it based on our experience but cannot comment on Covid-19 safety measures as these have come into play since we left. Having said that, Sarah was very professional and we would be confident that everything is now in place to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. 
Sarah advised on ferry crossings and arranged these for us.  
We received a warm welcome on arrival and friendly, helpful service throughout our stay.  Our room was spotless, spacious, peaceful and comfortable.
Breakfasts were amazing!
The location of the B & B is perfect for exploring Shanklin on foot (just a few minutes walk) or as a base to visit the Island. Sarah was happy to chat and give advice on places to see.
In summary, it was a great place to stay and we would definitely go back, should we return to the Isle of Wight any time soon.

In current circumstances any stay was going to have to be different as we all adjust to the "New Normal". Having been in lockdown for over 12 weeks and at least two overseas trips being cancelled we were pleased that at last we could travel overseas again albeit to the Isle of Wight! We arrived as the first visitors to the Old Shanklin on the Monday to big smiles and a very warm welcome by Gareth & Sarah.

They had gone to great lengths to provide all the bio-security and had reduced the number of guests staying to ensure our safety. To ensure safety breakfasts had to be individually served and during our stay Gareth got into the swing of it. Nothing was too much trouble and we were offered a mix of the traditional English breakfast and home made specials. A must have was the poached egg on homemade cheese scones with local bacon. 

This B&B is located in the Old Village in Shanklin and we stayed in the Godshill Room which was very comfortable. There some excellent restaurants nearby and a first class fish and chip shop. A great place to stay and explore the Isle of Wight and worthy of the 5 star rating.

After 5 nights having met Gareth & Sarah as strangers we left as friends.

We were among the first travellers to arrive at this lovely b and b following the re-opening of accommodation..   Gareth outlined precautions to ensure guests were protected from the pandemic.  Hand sanitiser was available on all levels and breakfasts were being staggered to ensure social distancing was maintained.  We were allocated the Bonchurch Suite, a double aspect room on the first floor.  The ongoing situation had required the removal of some soft furnishings but the room remained very comfortable with a king size bed, sofa, generous storage facilities and a hairdryer.  There was also a large bottle of fresh filtered water which was replenished immediately upon request as well as tea and coffee makings.  Freesat TV was available  and the ensuite featured a whirlpool bath and walk in shower. The towels and oversized bathsheets were of a high quality.  Both the bedroom and ensuite had been thoroughly cleaned before we arrived.  Breakfast was of a  high standard with a large selection to choose from.  Because of social distancing regulations there was no buffet but Gareth and Sarah produced anything we wanted from their obviously well organised kitchen.  Refills of orange juice and tea or coffee were freely available.  The homemade bread was delicious.  We both feel that Old Shanklin Guest House is perfect for anyone who wants a relaxing stay on the Isle of Wight within short walking distance of quality restaurants and reliable transport links to the rest of the Island.  

Booked a 2 night stay with car ferry crossing and everything was superb.
Greeted with a warm welcome smile by Sarah who showed us to our individually furnished en suite room.
The room was specious with a tv,  tea & coffee with biscuits, iron, hair drier, the full works. Found the bed to be very comfortable and slept well both nights.
Now for the breakfast, what can I say, 5* quality and service. Fresh fruit bowl, various juices & cereals, fruit yoghurts and of course a great full English breakfast topped with home made bread 🍞.
Now that’s what I call a feast of a breakfast!

Highly recommend the Old Shanklin Guest House and we would definitely book there again.

We stayed two nights and could not believe our luck. Spotlessly clean, everything you need and Sarah and Gareth are welcoming hosts.  Added bonus of free parking and WiFi, the real added extra was the care taken with the food.  Sourced locally apart from an amazing black pudding sourced from Stornaway.  Every care was taken to give you a lovely breakfast, roasted tomatoes, back bacon, mushrooms, local sausages and homemade bread.  Then you get homemade jam, marmalade and peanut butter - the attention to detail and care shown went way beyond the price being charged.  Would have gladly paid more for such a lovely relaxing stay.

We were travelling to the Portsmouth area to spend some time at the historic Navy Yard; we were faced with the fact that there were no rooms available in Portsmouth during the period of our visit, so we had to go a bit further afield to find accommodations.  We wound up booking our stay at the Old Shanklin Guest House on the Isle of Wight; this required a daily commute on the Shanklin/Ryde rail line and a trip across the harbor on a hovercraft on a daily basis.  This proved to be a delightful way to see the areas of the island adjacent to the rail line, and the hovercraft was always a fun ride.   And the Old Shanklin Guest House proved to be one of the most pleasant and hospitable stays that we experienced during our tour of the UK.  Our room was ample in size and well equipped, our hosts were friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were well prepared and ample.  Our evenings were spent visiting the shops and restaurants of Old Shanklin, which was very rewarding.  We'll be back to see more of the Island!

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Shanklin Guest House, staying in the Bonchurch Suite. We can't praise this accomodation enough. The room was spacious and very clean. The breakfast was excellent, full English, freshly cooked. The hosts were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The location is great, walking distance to numerous pubs and restaurants.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights in Sept. This was our first visit to IOW and the whole stay was better than we had expected (maybe helped by the weather which was dry and sunny every day). Sarah and Gareth were both very friendly, well-organised and hardworking. Our room was comfortable and we appreciated the daily bottle of fresh filtered water, tea,coffee etc. My wife mainly had the 'breakfast special' which changed every morning and she thoroughly enjoyed every one. The full English was nicely cooked and very tasty (try the black pudding!).The location is just minutes from the old village (good all day carvery at the Holliers Hotel) and the wonderful chine. Lots of superb cliff top walks and varied scenery.  OSGH is an excellent B&B.

We stayed for three nights with Gareth and Sarah.  The booked St. Helens room which was spacious and light and a great bathroom.  The breakfast menu was excellent and as a veggie there was a veggie special each day which was much appreciated.  Loved that they source local produce as much as possible.  Great restaurant recommendations.  We have already recomended
