We stayed in Painswick for 2 nights and ate here with our daughter and son-in-law on Friday evening. The meal was so good that we went back on Saturday evening too. We struggled to choose from so many good options. The chef was excellent and the waitress very attentive. It was a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Several well-known dishes were served with slight Romanian twist which made for extra interest.

After a six mile walk we arrived in the ghost-town of Painswick, still very much in Lockdown.... but all praise to Cardynham House who were able to serve is coffee and a Bacon Sandwich/Baguette as a take-away.  No fuss, no heavy signage, just simple and sensible social distancing.  What was most impresssive was a genuine smile, a great coffee and freshly cooked bacon.   So good to find somewhere open and most of all so welcoming.  Well done.

We have visited this gorgeous property for well over 10 years and it never disappoints .... from the quirky rooms to the fantastic customer service! 
I always leave with a heavy heart and look forward to the next visit. 
The owner is lovely and very helpful. The people working there are like family else especially the two lovelies who deliver the best breakfast ! There are hugs all round each time we see them .... this is our special place .... thank you all for a wonderful stay ..., until next time xxx 

Just returned from a two night mid-week break at the Cardynham House. Very quaint, old building so the rooms are cosy and the windows not double-glazed. That being said, the accommodation provided everything we needed with a canopied four-poster bed to boot.

We dined with friends in the bistro on the first night and the food was delicious, the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. 
The smoked salmon and crab, and mushroom starters were exceptional.
Chosen main courses were rack of lamb, halibut and stuffed pork tenderloin. All were wonderfully cooked and presented.

The wines on offer were also superb.

Parking is an issue, however the public car park noted in other reviews is a very short walk away.

We will be returning.

At the recommendation of our hostess in our Guest House we ate at the Bistro. We were greeted by the hostess and the chef, husband and wife, at the door and shown to our table by the window. The atmosphere was intimate, charming and we felt immediately relaxed and at home. The tomato soup was excellent as was the chef’s speciality, beef stroganoff. We enjoyed the original, Czech, Budweiser beer and an Australian red with our meal. Service was attentive, friendly and informative. We even chatted with couples at two neighbouring tables. A most enjoyable evening.

This hotel is full of character  with easy access to the Cotswolds and Bath. There is a very good restaurant which is part of the hotel. The breakfast is great. It's location is good for visiting Gloucester area and the Cotswolds. It's an easy drive to Bath where you can take the Park and ride.
Car Parking is difficult at the hotel but dropping off the bags and parking in the main village car Park is a short walk away.
I found the hotel staff were very welcoming and it was a very relaxing stay.

It's the second time we have visited cardynham house and once again it was a lovely stay, room was very spacious and clean with very nice touches. 
The owner John was very nice and chatty and made us feel welcome as did the other ladies that worked there. 
We will deffinatly be staying again and would highly recommend.

my husband and I were given a voucher as a gift and chose to go to cardynham house. 1st impressions were not great. Parking was an issue also. We were greeted by the chef of the bistro who was very friendly and showed us to our room. Our room was quirky and clean also lovely and warm as it was a cold day. We booked in the bistro for a meal on the 1st night and food was excellent. Highly recommendable. Breakfast the following morning was HUGE and very tasty. Waitress was friendly. Overall for the price I thought it was very good although not much to do in Paiswick itself however it suited my husband and I as we wanted a quiet break away from normal routine. Overall room was clean and staff very nice. When we left after our 2 night break I realised I had left a dress hanging in wardrobe. I called and we arranged for it to be posted back to me as long as I sent a stamp adressed bag which I did and my dress was promptly returned. Would we go back,.............. yes I think so. Would love to try the room with the pool next time.

Booked this hotel with the two day experience vouchers and read all the rules and regulations before booking so no nasty surprises. 

I found John a little intimidating at first when all the rules were reeled off but realise the reasons given some of the other guests comments.  We were perfectly happy with the garden room and facilities given the age of the building and room sizes in that age all facilities are provided in the best way possible. 

John was really attentive in checking when we would arrive and called us several times as he did not want us arriving and no staff on site. Our plans were pretty fluid and weather reliant and found this a nice touch and he suggested a parking place before unpacking the car. 

The Breakfast certainly was not lacking and we did not mind ordering the night before, the quality of the produce including biscuits with your room tea and coffee facilities  was excellent.  The two ladies running the place were friendly, helpful and happy to chat about the place and its history.   For something different try the Maples syrup pancakes and Bacon. 

Everywhere was old but generally clean, towels a little small but again nice and fluffy/clean.   I must confess to being OCD and the same with every hotel so could not help noticing dust in the bedside lamps  (we have the same lamps and they are a devil to clean!)  

A walk round the town and down to the mill stream is a must, the church and its Yew trees interesting but beware of the roads and trying to find somewhere to park. 

Great little find would recommend for those who like to try something different and away from the crowds.

After experiencing similar booking problems for a two night stay with a voucher, we finally booked our visit. John was courteous and his rules make sense given the number of  people trying to book, but perhaps he shouldn't be part of the programme. On arrival we were warmly greeted and even had assistance finding parking close by. The rose room was adequate  for a couple, very comfortable and nicely decorated. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful.
The bistro offers delicious evening meals, probably the best in Painswick and definitely worth staying for. It was busy the evening we were there.
Painswick itself is a beautiful village steeped in history. We were disappointed that the Byrnes-Jones window wasn't accessible but enjoyed wandering around the higgledy-piggeldy streets.
