John is an amazing host so kind and thoughtful. Stayed in the master suit with two bedrooms a lounge and bathroom.  Nothing is too much trouble.  Breakfast great plenty of it and home from home facilities.  Walked into Brockenhurst.  Central location for sightseeing in the New Forest. Thank you

I think John is the friendliest B and B host I've ever met.  My husband and I wanted a short break from London, somewhere accessible by train. Broadlands Gate appealed to us because it's a bit outside of Brockenhurst, includes breakfast, and had a suite available.  Our suite had two bedrooms, one full bath, and a WC, PLUS a sitting area complete with books and everything to make tea.  John is so friendly and flexible, and took the time to make up our beds after we'd left for the day, complete with a chocolate on the pillow. The breakfast each morning was so filling we didn't need lunch---yogurt, granola, fruit, coffee, toast with various jams and marmalade, sausages, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, and eggs cooked to order.  It's only about a 15 minute walk, if that, into central Brockenhurst.  We also were able to walk to Roydon Woods Nature Reserve, which allowed us to really get away from everyone and immerse ourselves in the woods.  We had a more casual dinner at the Snakecatcher Pub and then a fancier dinner at The Huntsman, both excellent.  This break was everythinf we hoped it would be, and staying at Broadlands Gate was a big part of that!

We stayed 3 nights during a long holiday visiting family in the UK. This was one of the best B&Bs we stayed in during our holiday. Positioned on the very edge of the village of Brockenhurst, this grand home was full of character. We were travelling with elderly family members who were very grateful when John offered the use of the stairlift for travelling up & down the grand staircase.
We stayed in the master suite, with 2 bedrooms, a comfortable private lounge, a bathroom and extra toilet. A wonderful cooked breakfast was served every morning in the atmospheric period dining room. John was the perfect host and nothing was too much trouble. As we were missing our dog at home, we enjoyed being greeted by John's offsider, Quentin the spaniel, every morning. We would certainly recommend staying at Broadlands Gate.

My wife and I attended a Wedding in Brockenhurst on 16th September and we had a four night stay at Broadlands Gate.
Our room was very clean and comfortable, we had the Junior Suite with a separate lounge area and TV in addition to the TV we had in our bedroom, tea and coffee facilities and fresh milk in a small fridge!
The breakfast was first class and we felt very much at home, we travel to the New Forest and Bournemouth quite often and will make a point of spending a night or two at Broadlands Gate when we are next in the area, for us, absolutely perfect!

I had a fantastic stay at John’s, the home is full of character, the decor is Victorian style and flows so well. Breakfast is excellent and I found myself taking pictures of the setting, its all a bit lavish and movie like. Its quite special. The junior suite is lovely, with a skylight over the bed from where you can see the stars at night in bed and a living room, with a good variety of teas! Plus the suite has a bathroom plus smaller toilet which is handy.The best thing is John’s hospitality, from directions to the B&B to the text to make sure we got home ok, it was very attentive. He has a super friendly and happy dog, and importantly, very well behaved. The location is really good, on a quiet road but walkable to some eateries on the main road. And near good forest hikes.

The loveliest of hosts, the most charming of houses, and an excellent New Forest hound. From the moment we made our booking we were made to feel very welcome. The level of care and attention from our host was only rivalled by their outstanding breakfast in a lovely dining room.

John is a superb host; in his house nothing is too much trouble from dietary requirements to knowledge of the local area, transportation etc. He is a great guy to talk to before and after your day out and always is interested in what you have done. The junior suite we stayed in was excellent and the idea of your own small lounge to relax in at the end of a day was a bonus. John serves up a great breakfast and is very attentive without being over the top. The house is very interesting and sits in beautiful grounds within 5mins walk of the Brockenhurst heathland, also it is within 15mins walk of some lovely local pubs and restaurants. Thanks John we will be back

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by John and his lovely doggies. We loved John's B&B, it was so grand and made you feel very special.
Nothing was to much trouble. John was the perfect host.
Breakfast was simply superb. Served up in the beautiful dining room where you mixed in with the other guests.
Thank you John, we enjoyed our stay. Also thankyou for the phone call to make sure we got home OK.
We will be back, definitely!!!

Where to start ? 
What a wonderfully quirky b&b.
Great location up a little gravel road about a 10 minute walk from Brockenhurst.
The house is a beautiful Victorian building with period features in abundance.
We had the Junior suite which is at the top of the building and consists of a bedroom with en suite, a separate toilet and a living room with tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge, a TV and 2 comfy armchairs.
John, the host, is quite possibly one of the nicest people you'll meet, nothing was too much trouble for him, it really did feel like you were staying with friends or relatives, even the dogs welcomed you home after a day out ☺️.
We came home after the first night to find the lights on in our room and two chocolates on the pillows to welcome us home ☺️.
Breakfast was a more than substantial full English.
On our last day we checked out and left the car at the house as there was some stuff we wanted to do in the area, John very kindly said keep the keys in case you need the toilet when you get back, leave them on the side when you're done, such was his hospitality.
Thankyou John (and dogs) for making our break truly special, we would definitely stay with you again.


Wonderful bed and breakfast

John is one of the most welcoming host I’ve ever come across, nothing was too much from the minute  we got there until the minute we left.

The house has so much character and it felt like we were staying with a friend as everything was so relaxed.

Just the odd things John did like leave the lights (I know it’s normal for the lights to be on) on for us and the mints made our stay even better.

The location is perfect for the New Forest. 

If I’m back up that area,  i would definitely stay there again.

Family visit

I loved this place. The house is stunning. 1892 splendour. Very generous rooms so beautifully furnished. 

Our master suite was like an apartment. Two double bedrooms, a lounge, bathroom and additional WC. Beds were very comfortable. Chocolates were placed on our pillow each evening and on returning from our evening activities, our room’s curtains were drawn and lights switched on ready to welcome us…such lovely gestures. 

John was and is a super host. He is kind, caring and ever so warm. We loved him. His breakfast is legendary. Beautiful fruits and yoghurt followed by delicious full English! Produce was stunning. This was a luxury breakfast cooked to perfection. Coffee was always so good and toast and conserves were lovely too. The dining room is so gorgeous. Silverware and lovely ornaments adorn the table and the room. A room with a garden view. 

Saying goodbye to John was like leaving a dear friend. I do hope we can visit again. John even called us to check we had arrived home safely.

Special…very special indeed

Great New Forest base
A perfect break with ponies just outside the door. The hosts could not have done any more to make us feel welcome throughout our stay. The  accommodation was spotless, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Our every need was taken care of. The host even called to ensure that we had arrived home safely! 
We need to make special mention of the young dog. He made you feel like the best visitors ever 😃
