Unicorn Hotel

We stayed during the recent ‘Heart of Wales’ rugby tournament. Unicorn was a real haven for our group of four: away from the mud and tents of the tournament.
A most pleasant, family-run establishment. A shame the TVs didn’t work - but we were down the road watching rugby anyway!

We had dinner and drinks at the Unicorn and weren't disappointed. Very friendly and welcoming owners. Great drinks selection and a varied menu. The atmosphere was relaxed and all the food was spot on. We will definitely be back, highly recommend.

Stopped for tea and cake after a long hot walk.  Very friendly accomodating staff who let us book the best table for supper that night.. The restaurant and bar area were busy but it didn't  make any difference to the service which was excellent.  Local young people were serving. Food freshly cooked and tasty. Definitely recommend 

We had a fantastic time at the Unicorn and we highly recommend. I organised a suprise 40th birthday party for my wife and family. 
Lynsey was a great help throughout from booking, menu choices and on the day. 
The whole hotel team put on great food and drink and were so welcoming. desserts and pizza especially delicious ooh and the pork baps 😋 
All the family loved the food and I am sure we will return in future for meals.

Stayed for two nights in room 3, a first floor suite at the front  . No evening meals on the days we stayed but plenty of places to eat in town and a nice walk along the river . The floors creaked a bit on the floor above but didn't really bother us . We wanted a room that had a separate lounge area , this fitted the requirements perfectly . Very comfortable rooms , nice little touches such as fresh milk in a mini fridge.and books on the table  .Very friendly staff and a great breakfast made it near perfect. Will book again when back in the area . 

We stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We arrived early but our room was available so we were able to check in. Fabulous room. Spotlessly clean. plenty of tea,coffee etc in our room. Fridge with small bottle of fresh milk. Brilliant shower and sensible sized towels. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Plenty of storage and a large tv. If I had to criticise anything, it would be that there isn't a carpark and parking was not easy. If we are ever in the area again we would'nt hesitate to stay there.

Visited for the first time this evening and I have to say it was well worth it!
Lovely setting, excellent service with food both well presented and extremely tasty!

What a beautiful gem in Wales! We had such a lovely stay in room 3. With superb bed, lots of facilities, extra en suite room. The food is more than splendig (brekafast: egg benedict) and the cakes in the bakery just kills you. Located in the centre of Llankdloes it is a perfect start of any walk in the neighboorhood

Just spent two nights at this lovely hotel. Great welcome and then shown to our room which was a suite and delightful. Fresh and clean with plenty of tea and coffee as well as biscuits which were most welcome after a long drive. We were in Llanidloes for a wedding so didn’t spend as long in the hotel as we would have like. Will be back to stay again and try the restaurant.

We had a one night stay with a room on each floor as our daughter’s graduation ceremony took place the following day in Aberystwyth.

There was nothing we could fault.  The decor is beautiful, the owners and staff welcoming and pleasant and the food was excellent.  Highly recommended!

We’ve just come back from a lovely weekend in Wales for our friends wedding and we chose to stay at the Unicorn Hotel - very pleased we did! 

We booked one of their suites (#2) and would definitely recommend paying the extra monies for one of their larger rooms with a lounge. The room was clean, cosy and the bed was huge! We had a very comfortable sleep and although we didn’t need them, we appreciated the earbuds just in case - a very thoughtful touch. 

The bathroom was functional but if honest, we’d say not on par with the rest of the room - it felt quite “grandma-ish” and could do with some modernising to bring it up to the same standard as the suite. 

As other reviewers have mentioned, we came back quite late so came in through the side alley - literally three strides from the main door and no issues at all. 

We’d definitely recommend the Unicorn for anyone looking for a cosy, quirky stay!

Cosy, quirky, a little gem

What a fabulous find! Very welcoming staff, quirkily decorated hotel with very comfortable, though rather small room. Large en suite shower room. Room was well equipped, including a fan which was useful in the warm weather.
We had drinks and home-made cakes in the bar area - delicious! In the evening we ate in the restaurant and my meal was one of the loveliest I have eaten in a long time. Delicious beetroot marinated smoked salmon, followed by a succulent, pan fried chicken breast with the most incredible cream and tarragon sauce. Perfect!
Breakfast was also delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If we lived a bit closer, we would visit more often, but will definitely stay again if we are back in the area.

Excellent stay - highly recommend!

Staying over for a nearby wedding we had luckily booked in advance for a table for 12 for dinner. On the night the restaurant was full and walk ins were turned away. I'm not surprised, the food was plentiful and excellently cooked. We had chosen ahead due to the size of our party which was fair enough but still Chris accommodated a late change. All this despite the normal evening chef having the night off for their birthday. The daytime chef apparently catered and it was perfection. Wine was excellent and very reasonably priced. This is a great example if a couple working really hard and doing very well without taking the Mick with prices. All decor was very classy and the little touches welcomed. Breakfast was plentiful and beautifully cooked. We returned from the wedding at 130am and were able to access via a side door. Will stay again whenever nearby

Look no further for a great stay

This is a lovely hotel run by husband and wife team Chris and Linzi (hope I've got the spelling right😋).
They've only had the place for a few months and are doing a wonderful job. It's very relaxed and decorated to a very high standard.
The room I stayed in (No5, on the front top floor) was well appointed with a very comfy king sized bed, mini fridge, and ensuite bath with shower over.
2 X bottled water was replaced every day, as was anything used from the hot drinks drawer. Daily cleaning and bed making is also included.
It's the only hotel (to my knowledge) that has a side entrance for which you are given a key because the main door is closed early evening.
This is great if you want to park a push/motor bike safely behind locked doors but is a little unusual for guests who don't need this facility as it involves entering and exiting via the bins.
Apart from this my stay was wonderful and I'd highly recommend The Unicorn to anyone looking for a quality place to rest if you find yourself anywhere near Llanidloes.
