37 reviewsMy friend and I go to the Hay book festival every year, and this time my sister and brother-in-law joined us. We have stayed at Highfields regularly and I would not dream of going anywhere else for the festival. Libby is a most welcoming host - tea and homemade welsh cakes when we arrived is just the start. The rooms are comfortable, well appointed and scrupulously clean. A welcome new touch is a small fridge on the landing where you can store wine, fudge or whatever you fancy. There is even a tray with wine glasses for your use. There is a table and chairs in the garden perfect for watching the sun set with a glass of wine. The garden round the farmhouse is lovely - my sister had a long conversation with Libby regarding her poppies - I'm better at weeds. Libby is a lovely cook and her breakfasts are legendary. As much as possible is locally sourced and very fresh. The bacon is historic but there is plenty of choice for all tastes. I know this sounds as if I am employed by the Jones' to give a great review, but this is genuinely the most comfortable B and B I have ever stayed at.
