Hoburne Devon Bay

Hoburne is by far our favourite holiday park. We've been to 4 of their sites. This is the second visit to Devon Bay. Last year we booked a Select grade and were lucky enough to have a beautiful view (see previous review). When we rebooked on site last year, we wanted to ensure we had the sliding patio doors and were told these were only guaranteed in a premium van. We've previously had a premium van at their sister site at Bashley so this year we had a 2 bed Premium. When we checked in we were told it was on the newest section on Hill View. Couldn't believe our luck, we were going to get a beautiful van and view for our 10 day visit. The carvaan/ Lodge was absolutely stunning. Large, modern, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. Private parking, extra large patio with furniture, ensuite with shower/ bath/ 2 sinks, washing machine and dishwasher. My only disappointment was the view and direction these vans have been placed. The majority of vans on Devon Bay all face towards the sea or the hill side area (which is what we enjoyed last year). So i would have expected some of the most expensive accommodation to also enjoy this view but oddly our van and those in the rows behind all faced the opposite direction which meant we couldn't see the view from the patio doors and there were no windows at the back. Instead we got to enjoy other guests on their decking and some trees. It was a huge let down and honestly would stop me booking a premium again here. I would rather have the Select grade with a better view. We could just about see the view when sat on the decking looking down between the vans and out of the side kitchen window. Just can't get my head around why that area has been designed that way. Other then this, we still love the site. It's in a perfect location for exploring the area. We used the Stage Coach more this year which takes you into Paignton or you can walk to the Waterside shops for buses to Brixham and Dartmouth. It was great to leave the car behind and explore via bus and ferry boats. Both indoor and outdoor pools were great. Outside a little chilly but ok once your in! Daughter did the Kayaks and the lad running the activity was brilliant with the kids. All lifeguards actually during our stay were fantastic. Very on the ball with keeping an eye on older kids messing about. The changing rooms were really clean and on 3 occasions I witnessed them cleaning the floors and even getting all the grates up. We unfortunately didn't get to eat or enjoy the entertainment on this visit as we normally went over later as my daughter is getting to old for the younger entertainment. Due to this, there was never any free tables and the place was packed. We also noticed on a few nights it was quite rowdy with the football being shown on multiple screens in every room, even outside. Would probably avoid coming in football season again. In summary, we love Hoburne and this site is a perfect location for us when visiting Devon. I would book a Select again not a Premium as its just not worth the extra to me knowing i wont have a view but might in the lower grade.
