It's an excellent place for a first stop on the St Cuthbert's Way from Melrose, especially if you're staying on a Friday or Saturday night when the nearby Caddy Mann is open for dinners.

A great first stop on the St Cuthbert's Way

My partner and i spent three nights at Mounthooly Haugh B&B at the beginning of August 2018.  Our host Caroline was a delightful person, who made sure our stay was a memorable one. Nothing was too much trouble for her.

The room was of a good size, cool in the hot weather with stunning views over the local countryside.  The bed was very comfortable, enabling a good night's sleep.  The ensuite was modern, scrupulously clean and well equipped.

Caroline's house is simply wonderful, beautifully presented, tastefully decorated and well situated in a very quiet location.  At night all you could hear was the breeze and the odd owl nearby.  No light pollution and the night skies were spectacular.

Breakfast was cooked to order at a time to suit the guest. It was delicious and substantial - i had the full english and my partner had porridge followed by scrambled eggs, both prepared exactly as she likes them.  Good quality tea and coffee completed a highly satisfactory meal.

Caroline is a delightful personality, very friendly and welcoming into what is - after all - her own home.  She could not have made us more welcome and we will be going back next year.  Very highly recommended.

The Best B&B

Caroline is a lovely host. It is a beautiful house with charming guest rooms, with a well appointed en-suite bathroom. We had a really enjoyable overnight, having had dinner at the Caddy Man nearby. Breakfast options were varied. We opted for the traditional cooked breakfast, which was cooked to perfection. The only improvement I can think of would be a black-out roller blind on the window to keep out the light at 5am. We will be back, cannot recommend it more highly.

Caroline immediately puts you at ease as she welcomes you into her superbly appointed and exquisitely decorated home.  

Think of it less of a B&B and more of a welcome to a friend’s luxurious country home.  No chintz, no signs, no rules, just a genuine and sincere welcome. Our room was spotlessly clean, in excellent order and super spacious.  

Your morning repast is served in the most elegant of breakfast rooms. Discreet luxuries such as linen napkins, monogrammed tea spoons, fresh flowers and fine china just add to the quality experience.   Breakfast was plentiful and, as you’d expect, mirrors the rest of the Mount Hooly experience; perfection.  

It was a privilege to spend a weekend in Scottish hospitality at the utmost level of quality.  Thank you.  

Stunning Home! 

Caroline is a very friendly easy to talk to person. The rooms are good and big.
It's a bit harder to find and a distance from any restaurants or town life.
Towels etc are very clean.
It was a bit disappointing that Caroline didn't have credit card facilities and we had to pay cash. Whilst I understand her reasoning for not having this.... It is somewhat difficult for someone from overseas to pay for three nights.
Still... A very pleasant stay.
