stopped over while travelling to france. the rooms were great . the staff were very freindly and attentive. the food was excellent ( coming from Barnsley i had the Barnsley chop). the place is in a beautiful village ten minutes from the channel tunnel so perfect for an early start to france. the surrounding countryside is stunning

Wonderful Sunday lunch...slow roasted brisket with all the trimmings for hubby and a splendid vegan mint and pea ravioli for me. Not to forget the yummy starters, puddings, and excellent wine. Best vegan options this side of Canterbury .

My husband and I went to this hidden gem of a pub and wow what a find. We were greeted by whom must have been the manager. Her name was Marie. I enjoyed there selection of gins whilst my husband drunk his favourite Sheps Ale Master brew. Will return very soon thanks for your hospitality

My wife and I went to this pub for an early evening drink. We realized it was under new management and were made to feel so welcome that we ended up staying a lot longer and enjoyed a game of bingo. Highly recommended!

Delicious food and good choice on the menu so it was difficult to choose but everything we had was delicious. There was a nice warm fire which made the place cosy. Was surprised that we were the only customers as it’s such a nice place and the waiter was very helpful

We had a lovely weekday lunch in the Rose and crown.  Ambience was great.  Lovely fire, staff really friendly and helpful.  Food delicious.  Not to mention Bruce the dog who was a real character.  Will be returning again.

This is one of my local hostelries and one I go to with my friends when we want something more than standard pub grub.  There are 4 or 5 choices in each section of the menu, with "small plates" being starters or lunches and "big plates" dinner choices.  Two of us had the liver and bacon which came with mash and veg, and I chose the chicken breast with barbecue sauce, bacon and cheese (seemed like Hunter's chicken in all but name), which came with salad and fries.  The meals were very nicely cooked and nicely satisfying.  Two of us had sweets, usual fare of apple crumble, ice cream etc.  Again, a choice of about 4 or 5 including cheese and biscuits which not all establishments offer these days.  Overall, a very nice meal and the service was friendly without being intrusive.  I would thoroughly recommend it.

The inn staff is beyond friendly,  Allan is the best cook and his breakfast second to none!  This is our second trip and he even remembered that my husband wanted black pudding (few people do).  The rooms as perfect, just big enough so that 2 people are comfortable.  Great little snack bar with coffee and tea and biscuits - FAB!

We stayed here over night for a wedding 
at the nearby Broome Park Hotel and it was perfect. When we arrived we asked for any local taxi firms but we were warned that they will charge alot as most will have to come to the local area from Folkestone, the staff arranged for a private taxi driver to take us to Broome Park and pick us up later that evening at a very good price. Breakfast was brilliant staff very friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and cosy, it has been converted from stables. Nice to have a kettle hot chocolate tea biscuits provided. Would definitely recommend

Great value for money, simple (meant positively) rooms which were spacious, friendly staff. great breakfast .. a group of us stayed for a wedding which was happening nearby .. nothing to fault at all... and Bruce... is awesome (visit to find out what I mean ;-) )

5 members of our road trip club stayed here on the way to France. 
Staff were really helpful and worked very hard. 
Good selection of beers and shorts in the bar which also had an old billiards table and dart board for entertainment. 
The food here is excellent. We had a good selection from the menu including amazing chilli king prawns. 
Accommodation is basic but comfortable. If on a ground floor room you can hear all the footsteps of the room above due to the construction so I guess I would recommend an upper room for peace and quiet. 
All in all a great visit which suited us all perfectly as a stop on our journey.

Basic accommodation but great food

Very kind and attentive, nothing was too much. I was gluten intolerant and I was well catered for.
Rooms were generous size, only one minor detail maybe a little complimentary shower gel would have been lovely but no complaints.

So good we stayed  a  lot longer than we should

Clean and tidy room with friendly staff. Be careful that you ensure you book through the correct site or breakfast will become an extra. That was my fault. Recommend for a nights stay when walking the Elham Valley Path. Ample parking and outside space.

One Night stop over.

This was a one night stay to meet up with friends in the village.  Elham is a pleasant village with three pubs within a short walk of each other, each with very different characteristics.  Our room (£100 icluding breakfast) was a large double in the old stable block with a high loft style ceiling into the roof.  It was chilly on arrival and we cranked up the electric wall heaters and the separate plug in heater. 

 We spent very little time in the room other than to sleep and then shower in the morning.   With the heaters on the room was warm enough. The bed was comfortable.  There is evidence of some damp on the bathroom wall. 

 In general the staff were friendly and, after a slow booking in experience, attentive.  We had our evening meal in the bar area as the dining room appeared to be closed, possibly due to lack of bookings or staff.  The table we had was rather dark for eating and I asked for a candle to be brought to the table.  The food was adequate but the portions a bit small in my opinion.

The cooked breakfast the next morning was tasty.  We had been asked to complete a breakfast form and hand it in the day before.  I had items on my plate that I had not requested on the form but I didn't raise this point.

One night stay in the stables accommodation, adjacent to the pub.

Communication is sadly non existent. Over 40 calls unanswered, emails not responded to until the last moment.  I feel this is down to the venue being understaffed, sadly. This needs addressing.

The room was clean and large, if tired- the bathroom would benefit from some new flooring. The shower was temperamental but clean. We had a good night's sleep. 

The staff, once located, were friendly and helpful.

This review would have been 2 stars had it not been for the very friendly and helpful cook 'Tina'. She made us very welcome and was apologetic over what had been lacking up to that point.  Our breakfast was lovely and hot and of good quality. Tina is a credit, and I hope appreciated by the proprietors. 

Would recommend the pub as a cheap'er' no thrills stay if you are visiting the area, or if like us you are attending an event at the Broome Hotel. A taxi costs approx £20 to take you between the two.  Taxi firm were amazing - vintage taxi's I believe.

The pub itself is a traditional, typical looking country pub with a nice homely feel about it and worth a visit.

A much needed getaway- on arrival we paid the £200 bill for two nights we  wasn’t told if any breakfast was included with our stay  or if we get fresh linen towels  etc we checked emails in the room which didn’t say much..we then decided to have food and were  happy they could fit us in we were famished.But unfortunately the food was very  disappointing we had a Shepherds pie (bland no veg or gravy all mince with possible instant mash) and prawn linguine (huge amount of  pasta  with not much  ingredients or sea food at all no calamari which was on the menu& the  dish was over powered with garlic.Did we eat it?of course as  we had a long journey & we were very hungry did we make a fuss NO As we had just arrived and we just wanted to relax.

We then went to our room spacious and clean ..the  bathroom needs re doing a make over 💯   as the shower tap was not working properly  plus  we only had one loo roll and no milk for tea or coffee 
This place has so much potential if they pay attention to  small details and actually give info to the public on arrival and give clear information in emails /rooms as to if room service is given etc or some ideas of local places to visit and maybe change the chef (sorry guys) but we went to a Tesco cafe and had better for half the price   …
