Excellent base for walking in the area. One of the best HF houses I have stayed at and I have stayed in 13. Well managed with friendly helpful staff and useful walking info in Discovery Point.
Accommodation and catering good. Service 1st class

Brilliant Easter weekend spend at the hotel.  All the staff were great, the food was really good, good packed lunch. The guide Catherine was really helpful and the walks were great as well. They even managed to have three days of sunshine!!


We were booked on a self guided holiday. Having navigated through some narrow lanes we arrived in this lovely peaceful location. Glorious views, pretty gardens . Our room overlooked the garden, very large with ensure shower and separate bath. Covid restrictions  in place but we'll managed. A tasting menu on the first night. Staff were friendly  and helpful. Every day you choose menu for next day, choice of starters, mains and desserts. Also choose items for packed lunches.

Our walking weekend here was one of the best I've been on. Arriving to find the place in such a stunning location, I thought the long weekend couldn't get any better ... but it did! The staff were welcoming, the comfortable room and bathroom were spacious and well appointed, the bar area a great place to get together. The food was delicious - it was a good thing we were getting all the exercise we did. Our food experience culiminated in a "Welsh Tasting Menu" on our last night. Mmmm, the salt marsh lamb! This was my third extremely positive experience of an HF hotel and made me decide to join.

I have just returned from a Discovering Photography Weekend Staying at the Dolserau Hotel near Dolgellau.  Great hotel, wonderful staff and great food. The local area is great for landscape photography, with its torrents and high mountains.
As good as the hotel was, it was a photographic weekend, the person provided by the holiday company to lead the weekend was Mr Steven Boniwell. To say the least he was a disappointment. I would never book an other photograph week end if Mr Boniwell was involved.
If you want to photograph the area, the hotel has a discovery room which contains all the information if you need to find the most picturesque sites. This way you will avoid Mr Boniwell and have a great stay.

The HF week's holiday visiting the Welsh narrow gauge railways was based out of Dolserau Hall Hotel, Dolgellau.  This hotel is ideally located to cover the 10 narrow gauge railways around the North Wales / Snowdon area.  Indeed the HF holiday was the only one that included all 10 railways in its itinerary.  The hall is set in very attractive grounds in a pastoral setting.  The rooms are either in the main building or in the attractively converted coach house.  The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable.  The full board food was excellent, with a guest's pre-selected choice for dinner and packed lunch.  Breakfast was full of variety from light choices to full-blown Welsh, for those that needed to stoke up for the day's exertions.  The bar was well stocked with lots of local drinks, all at very reasonable prices.  The staff at the hall provided excellent, very friendly and accommodating service.  Overall an excellent holiday

This was an HF explorers holiday and it was superb. We visited Powys Castle,Tallylyn railway, Aberystwith, to name just a few places.  We had a very spacious room and the food was excellent. Would recommend this place.

Amazing place. Had no expectations and it exceeded any i may have had.  Staff great especially house manager. Chef's amazing as was the 7 course tasting menu they provided on Saturday night. We organised our own walks and area is simply stunning.  Rooms huge and comfortable.

This was a lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Staff ( Gareth and Irina) were very helpful and made us feel most welcome. The food was plentiful and very enjoyable. We stayed in the Annex as we had a dog with us, room was spacious and met all our requirements. We were doing self guided walks, but lots of helpful information available for us to use. A great weekend, we would go back.

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend based at Dolserau Hall, in spite of the somewhat less than summery weather. We were well looked after by the staff and the food was both plentiful and beautifully prepared.

Our room was large, comfortable and quiet, and we slept perfectly throughout our stay.

The only minor criticism is that, probably due to the time of year and the prevailing weather, we were initially sharing our room with a number of spiders, who we promptly evicted! Perhaps the vacuum hose could have been directed upwards into the corners when the room was cleaned.
