We stayed as a family of 4 just for one night as we was at a festival. And the room was excellent, beautiful decor,comfy beds and breakfast was perfect. All the staff was very friendly and loved our welcome note and chocolates left on our bed will be definitely staying again .

Stayed here last weekend, having been given Virgin Red Letter Day vouchers for 2 nights as a Xmas present. Couldn’t  get a Saturday/Sunday (left it late booking) but a Sunday/Monday night was fine for us. Upon arriving we were pleasantly welcomed by a young lady, who informed us we would be staying in Room 6, which was the executive suite. This was a welcome surprise as we were going to ask about getting an upgrade which would have cost an extra £25 each. The room was lovely, and I would highly recommend spending the little bit extra compared to a normal room. There was a free standing bath in the room, but sadly it wasn’t working. If I had booked the room based on this extra, I wouldn’t have been too pleased , but as we hadn’t expected to stay in this room, we couldn’t complain really. The noise from outside was minimal, but if you are a light sleeper, I’d bring some earplugs just in case. 
The staff all seemed to be very friendly and accommodating. 
On Sunday evening they had a quiz, which had every table full, and was a great  atmosphere. 
The breakfast I can’t fault. They will cook what you want how you want from the menu. I had a full English breakfast which was of a great standard. I thought I’d have a yoghurt too, but they didn’t have any, only a Greek yoghurt. I was fine with that, and the lady decided to give me a plate of cut strawberries to go with it, which was a nice touch. 
I would happily stay here again, although the price is of the higher end for a pub/hotel. Brighton is a 15 minute drive, but we got the bus which was a lot easier, which took about the same time, as trying to park in Brighton can be a nightmare. The bus stop was literally across the road. There are plenty of buses back late in the evening too.
If you like walking, there is a lovely walk across the Downs to Rottingdean, where there is a lovely beach, and a few pretty pubs for a drink, which is a lot quieter than Brighton beach. Took about an hour to walk.

Enjoyed a great night in the restaurant with family to celebrate a wedding anniversary. They have a menu to suit all tastes. A good selection of wines and beers. Prices are good as are the portion sizes. Our server Kaiya was fantastic. Very attentive and friendly and a lovely sense of humour. She is a real credit to The Downs. Many thanks to all behind the scenes also. Highly recommended as a lovely place to eat with ample parking.

Second time visit while at football at the Amex. This time unplanned for evening meal after the match. The staff had no problem getting table for six of us, very attentive and food was really good, service was about the best we’ve had in a long time. I would highly recommend for the food, menu and service. Staff gave us info on supporters bus that runs from there. Will  be definitely making this our go to place on match days.

We had a great stay. Very comfortable and excellent service.

The room was very clean and spacious, with minimal noise from the bar below. It was well located, with a bus stop right outside, making the city centre easily accessible. Would definitely stay here again.

Was greeted by a member of staff on arrival. Hotel room was as great, spacious, homely and well equipped.We loved it.

Room good, well stocked with plenty of tea, coffee. Pod style. Bathroom excellent with great shower. Food very good and breakfast  amazing.

Fantastic dog friendly pub & hotel. The room preparation was superb and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The dog was fantastically cared for. Great field across the road for exercising the dog as well.  Very convenient location for access to & from A27.

Brilliant food and service

This was a 1-night stay for work. I was in room 3, which was very comfortable, tea & coffee making facilities, great choice of lighting in room. Ensuite was good. Wifi you had to provide an email address which you had to verify. TV was okay but did not have the BBC channels on it. Possibly the most comfortable bed I have slept in (whilst away from home) this year. The only downside was the radiator was on in the room and would not turn down/off. Car park was free. The only note getting to premises is it is right at the crossroad junction, so I missed it when I first went over junction.

Away for work

We booked this hotel as a stay for the night after atrending a black tie event.Well, the event was cancelled but i thought that we may as well keep the room anyway.One of my better decisions.From arrival, the atmosphere was friendly, the Harveys bitter well kept and the evening meal was great. Steak & Venison pie for me and Gammon steak fir my fiancé, with a side dish of topped toasted potatoes.The room was clean and spacious, and we found a welcome note from Sarah (the maid) welcoming us. Nice personal touch.Breakfast was also great.Perhaps the only slight nighle was that the duvet was possibly a little small. Butt maybe i'm just a closet duvet hog.All in all, we can thoroughly recommend this gem of an Inn.

A gem.

An absolutely fabulous stay. Spacious room with comfortable bed. Cleanliness wasperfect in both room and bathroom. The bathroom itself was stylish with a lovely shower. Breakfast was ample and very very tasty. Good quality TV, and room service was available with meals from the bar I noticed (I did not need this service). Even though on a main road the noise was minimal so assume there was good double glazing. There was some noise with music from the downstairs bar but this finished at a reasonable hour. For the price the Downs Hotel in my eyes is a little gem.

Fish and Chip shop close by is an excellent option too.Friendly staff.The Bad:The in-room internet service provider blocks all ‘adult’ websites - even for adults!The milk provided with the tea-making equipment in the room is full-fat (dairy). This is very strange in 2024 and in Brighton in particular. A better option would be for dairy milk to be semi-skimmed and there also to be oat milk sachets

What a great hotel/ pub. Usually stay on the sea front but this was a last minute need to go to Brighton and the prices were very expensive. Found the Downs Hotel, on arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful, was shown to my room which was upgraded from a single to a double without and charge. The room was spacious, nicely decorated and a lovely modern bathroom. Tea and coffee making facilities were great with coffee machine even. The room was nice and warm and had obviously been cleaned to perfection by Sarah who had left me a personalised card. Breakfast was included, i had a full english cooked to perfection with two of everyting! A very enjoyable stay and will definately be staying there again on my next trip in  a month or so.

A nice, welcoming pub. Room and en suite very good with comfortable bed.  Unable to have breakfast as it was not available till 7.30 and we were leaving at that time for the ferry.  Bar and food were fine, no problem.  Unfortunately, the pub is on a very busy road junction, and this made it noisy. Also, as our room was at the front and overlooked the outside seating area, it was also noisy.

What a fabulous place to stay in , we checked in and was upgraded for free , we stayed for two nights and honestly this is the best cleanest ,friendly and welcoming place , the staff couldn’t be more helpful , I certainly recommend you to stay here could have stayed longer we enjoyed every minute . Thank you to all.
