A lovely clean and welcoming guest house home from home. Very comfortable bed and in a quiet spot too, owners very helpful as well as a hearty breakfast provided. Safe secure parking though not at the premises just a short walk away - highly recommended…

We spent three nights in this lovely guest house in March 2025. Very centrally located (30 seconds walk to the main street). Beautifully decorated throughout, with a host of personal touches to make it even more special. My room was lovely, with every possible amenity provided. Better than many top class hotels. The couple that run it are amazing hosts, and the breakfast is incredible. You have to order it the night before, but that is just to ensure they provide you with the best possible experience. Everything was first rate. We went a bit mad the first day and ordered "full English". Outstanding. But way too big!! We gradually reduced our order each day to avoid wasting the stunning food, but were still full after every meal and never managed lunch!! Awesome.
On a practical note they have off street parking if you let them know in advance. It's about 100 yards from the guest house.
DEFINITELY coming back here.

On arrival we were met with a very warm welcome from the hosts Kevin and Tracey who showed us to our room which didn't disappoint, the room was very modern and clean with an aray of teas and coffees also hot chocolate and biscuits. The bed and bedding made for a very comfy night sleep. There was a good selection on the breakfast menu and can highly recommend the cooked breakfast and the poached eggs with avocado. Great value for money will definitely stay again. Great location for the shops and bus routes to the lakes

A great guest house in the heart of Ambleside with secure parking a two minute walk away.  Room was excellent, very  well decorated ad fitted out.  ON-suite was good and the shower was super powerful.  Tracey and Kevin were great, super friendly and breakfasst was top notch, loved the big fat cumberland sausage and the poached eggs were excellent.  Would highly reccomend.

We chose this guest house after our go-to B&B was no longer available. Melrose Guest House has surpassed expectations and we now have a clear winner for future visits to Ambleside. 

The decor is to a very high standard and the ambience is homely and cosy. Everything is spotlessly clean and well presented. 

Tracey & Kevin are friendly, accommodating and clearly take pride in their guest house. They have ticked every box, it is obvious that they aim to please their visitors and have gone above & beyond to think of every need. There was nothing whatsoever that we felt was lacking and the attention to detail went a long way. 

The breakfasts are excellent, with a good choice of local, high quality produce. The parking (as described in other reviews) is a short walking distance away and is secure and private. 

Genuinely, we cannot fault Melrose Guest House in the slightest. Would recommend in a heart beat. We look forward to visiting again in the future.

Lovely welcoming hosts (Tracy & Kevin). Good size and very clean room. Comfortable beds. Spacious bathroom with toiletries. Excellent breakfast choices, something for everyone. Good location and car parking. Looking forward to staying again.

Everything was top class. Beautiful room. Comfortable bed, toiletries, TV, tea tray all great. Breakfast was high quality. Very enjoyable. Guest house is right in town so you can walk to shops restaurants and good pubs. Highly recommended.

A beautiful clean and central to everything b@b. Brilliant hist and fantastic breakfast.  Could not ask for anything better.Parking in a secure car park 2 min walk away. You can park outside the Melrose for an hour with a parking disc from any shop or the b@b.In all we would highly recommend The Melrose.

Good communication prior to visit, Parking to offload and secure parking fantastic. Great location well looked after. Rooms were excellent, warm and quiet. Great brakfast.

Kevin and Tracey were the perfect hosts. I booked the room very short notice after arriving in Ambleside but was greeted by Kevin who showed me where to park, my room, and pointed out the best pubs and restaurants to visit in the evening.I used the secure parking down the road which was handy (Not sure what I selected on the parking section of the previous page of this review as the options were blank for some reason).Room was perfect for my needs, very clean, comfortable bed, and all the amenities I required for my short stay, the bathroom was also very clean and modern.Breakfast was my favourite part of the stay, it was just what I needed before climbing Helvellyn.I would have loved to have stayed another night but needed to get home. I would definitely stay again next time I am in Ambleside, thank you!

Just what I needed

The perfect place to stay. We stayed in Room 2 and it was beautiful, very spacious and comfortable. Bed was so comfy, en-suite was wonderful - has the best shower. Breakfast was a highlight, chosen the night before with so many options, we were spoiled for choice, and that’s how we felt very spoiled. Tracey and Kevin are the perfect hosts, friendly, kind, welcoming and knowledgeable about the area which is very helpful. The house is perfectly situated in a quiet part of Ambleside but everything is within walking distance from shops to crazy golf. We hope to return again soon. Absolutely loved our stay at Melrose Guest House, fantastic location, it was spotlessly clean, breakfast was amazing, and nothing was too much trouble! We wanted to run the local Parkrun, and weren’t going to be available during breakfast times, so a breakfast tray was organised for us to enjoy later in the morning when we got back. Will definitely stay again if we return to the area.

Good B&B would stay there again. Minor gripe on my single room with separate bathroom is the dressing gown was small for me, I am tall, the bed squeaked at the slightest moment and the room was too warm for me but I do like to be cool at night so that's a personal preference, as I say minor gripe that wouldn't stop me staying there again.

What a wonderful first stay we had! Lovely greeting and check in to our room which was beautiful and so clean. Breakfast was incredible! I ordered the avocado on toast 3 mornings in a row! Kevin and Tracey were fantastic, always on hand if needed. The area is beautiful and the street was very quiet when we were here. Great walks, even in the rain we had it didn’t spoil a thing. The car park was super handy as we drove, very safe and only a 3 minute walk away. We would most definitely return and recommend Melrose guest house to anyone wishing to visit the lakes.
