We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. The staff and the lovely hostess, Rita, are very friendly. Our room was spacious and comfortable with basic requirements. The shared bathroom facilities were clean and the showers hot!! Breakfast was included in the tariff and was very generous: juice, coffee, yoghurt, bread with a variety of meats and cheeses and fruit. Rita makes the BEST coffee. The quick internet reception was most welcome. Wassen is a very central place to stay,
for touring and cycling enthusiasts. The hotel also has free parking. We really enjoyed our stay here, thank you.

stayed at the hotel krone for one night as part of motorcycle tour around Europe. really liked this place ,very friendly staff. dropped our luggage off in the morning and went off on the bikes for the day. Luggage was In the room ready for us on return. Good food, good rooms. best of all for us bikers you can use the hotel garage to put away you bikes safe at night. location is perfect, only 200yds from the start of the susten pass!

The exchange rate between the Swiss Franc and U.S. dollar is about 1:1 right now, so a $50 hotel night with breakfast isn't a bad thing, especially in Switzerland.  And although I tend to be fairly generous in my reviews, I would say this hotel will meet your expectations only if they are low.  A few comments on the rooms: 1) No television, at least not in mine- That's not a bad thing if you only come here to sleep.  2) No wifi- again, not an issue for some travelers.  3) Very, very squeaky floors- if you never get up in the night, and if the people staying around you don't either, this may not be an issue.  4) Very soft mattress- this is quite different from other hotels in Switzerland I have stayed at.  5) 'Crunchy' towels- if you have experienced towels washed aggressively without any fabric softener then you know what I'm talking about.  6) Community bathroom and showers- not an issue for me, but understand that by 'community' it means men and women share the same shower.  7) breakfast is rudimentary at best.  This may have been because the hotel was empty when I visited, but the breakfast consisted of a few slices of bread, some meats, cheeses and butter.  Oh, and a yogurt.  

On the plus side, the couple running the hotel are extremely friendly.  The shower has good water pressure and lots of hot water.  The restaurant is very good and I enjoyed a fantastic dinner there.  Plus there was plenty of free parking.

I have to admit that I have no point of reference to honestly say whether this hotel is or is not representative of a $50 hotel in the Uri Canton of Switzerland.  I can say, however, that in retrospect I would have strongly considered spending, say, $20 - $30 more for a hotel that was perhaps a step up from this very budget hotel.  However if your budget simply does not allow it, this hotel will fit the bill for a warm bed, hot shower, and something to eat before you leave the next morning.

Had hoped for better, even at a budget price

Whilst climbing the St Gotthard Pass on a bicycle I got as far as I could for the day and found this hotel on the edge of Wassen. Nice and clean with helpful staff. Communal shower and toilets but that inconvenience is part of the reasonable cost of the room 50 SFR. Ate in the restaurant and that was fine. If you are passing through then I can recommend this hotel.

Nice & Convenient Location

Stooped along the way at this hotel, after calling them for a room. The hotel is something in between a local pub, club of retirees and yes, they have a few rooms. My recommendation is: skip it. Weird.
