This was a wonderful experience! Dodonduwa has captured our hearts and so have Nimal and his family. We have truly been spoiled by the wonderful food, local knowledge & experience and hospitality.

Nimal is/was a professional chef and him and his wife make sure you get the most out of your authentic Sri Lankan experience. All produce fresh from the garden or around, we didn't have it any better than the time we've spent in Dodonduwa.

The village/town is tiny, expect nothing but green, peachefulness & glorious beaches. We can't wait to go back

We stayed for 10 days and had the best time, thank you Nimal & Chani for all your fantastic hospitality, after speaking with Nimal and letting him know what we would like to see and do whilst we were there, he organised and arranged everything, and we were certainly not disappointed. We did things that we had never done before, like rock climbing, body boarding, snorkelling and riding elephants.  Would definitely recommend and would certainly visit again.  Thank you.

Situated about 3km from Hikkaduwa city, but very easy to get to the city with a Tuk tuk or bus. A very lovely village with beautiful palm tree views. Nimal and family are lovely hosts and give you a lot of information about where to visit. Nimal is great to go snorkeling with. He provides you with snorkeling gear and guides you, giving the names of all the local fish. We also spotted turtle in their natural environment while we were snorkeling with Nimal, which we are pretty sure we would not have spotted if we went without a skilled local guide. 
The food is amazing. You get a lovely breakfast and they can also cook dinner for a very reasonable price- would recommend you get dinner at least once. They were extremely hospitable and wanted us to have a lovely stay. Overall we stayed for 3 nights and we could have stayed much longer. The room is clean and neat with basic essentials- all you need. Would recommend this homestay to anyone planning to go to Hikkaduwa. It’s very worth is for the price.

We were hosted by Nimal (nickname for Kusal) in one of the places he looks after in Dodanduwa for a week. We experienced a great hospitality and attention from him and his wife. As we travelled with small kids, we really appreciated that Nimal was so nice to them and kids instantly were friends with him. He is the master chef and we really recommend paying a little extra to get from him delicious breakfasts (our tip – hoppers with coconut) and nice dinners (curry, fish, prawns) – everything prepared from fresh ingredients. Or join him during cooking to discover some of the secrets of the Sri Lankan cuisine.
We spent another week with Nimal on a trip (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Haputale, Uda Walawe…) – everything greatly organised by him, he picked good hotels to stay and took us to interesting places along the way. Recommend! He knows great deal about the country and has very good English. As we traveled with kids, there always were some „extra wishes“ – no problem, just told Nimal and he did his best! Or if we were not interested in doing something, just said it and he respected.
All in all, we had a great family holiday in Dodanduwa and enjoyed very much our trip around the surrounding provinces. There is so much more to see in Sri Lanka that we would like to come back – and would not hesitate to reach out to Nimal again.

This is how all homestay should be, about 2 km from the loud tourist strip of Hikkaduwa is Nimals homestay, experience true Sri Lankan hospitality in this family run venue, the two upstairs rooms have kingsize beds with clean sheets and comfy mattresses.  They share a balcony where you can watch the birds and wildlife in the palms and other trees that surround the property(fireflies at night)
Our experience started on arrival with King coconuts and and the offer of tea.  Nimal and Chani are excellent cooks and it’s worth paying for the breakfast and evening meals which are extensive and prepared with fresh ingredients.  
Nimals extensive local knowledge allows you to get the best of the excursions and local offerings.  We saw giant sea turtles , octopus and many other fish on the reef with him.  Whale watching we were lucky enough to see two blue whales and sat in the middle of a pod of 100 dolphins.  Kayaking on the local lagoon you can see giant monitor lizard, eagles and Kingfishers fishing.   The real treat is the warmth and generosity of the family who are genuinely committed to making this a Sri Lankan experience in every part of your trip whilst still giving you space and privacy.  
Escape the tourist trap of Hikkaduwa and experience the real Sri Lanka ( you can always pop in and use the beach when you want to)

I really enjoyed to stay at Nimals homestay.
It is out of the loud touristic places, so you can enjoy lovley Sri Lankan village lifestyle.
The beach is just few minutes away. And there is a good public transportation with that you can reach Hikkaduwa in 5 min and Galle in 30 min.
The room is very clean and there is a balcony with a lovley view. 
This homestay is owned by a wonderful family, they took so much care of me, I felt directly like home. And the food, it is so good, cooked with love! Nimal also offers diverse tours, cooking courses and snorkling for a fair price. 
I came already twice during my stay in Sri Lanka,  and I will come back again!

Nimal's Homestay was the highlight of my trip to Sri Lanka by far.  The kindness, generosity and fun of staying with a Sri Lankan family was tops.  Nimal, his wife Chani and their children welcome you into their home.  You are off the beaten tourist track and in the heart of the village, next to the local school, a tailor just down the street where I had beautiful clothes made, a private haven in the village.  

The room is comfortable, bed is big and comfy, ample mosquito netting, private bathroom with the room and the best part is the balcony out the back of the rooms looking out over the jungle, where monkeys swing occasionally!  The meals at Nimal's Homestay are fantastic, a real highlight, and I even did a cooking class to bring home some of their Sri Lankan cooking secrets.  

Nimal took me on a 4 day trip to Singhraja, Haputale, Ella, Kataragama and Yala National Park; it was great to have such fun and knowledgeable company caring for me.  Locally, Hikkaduwa beaches, snorkeling, resorts are 10 minutes away by tuk tuk and the tourist town of Galle is 30 minutes away by local bus.  I cannot recommend a stay at Nimal's Homestay enough---Nimal, Chani and the family made this experience a lifetime high for me.  Thank you all!!

We had a great few days with Nimal and Chani who could not be more helpfulol or accommodating. Dodonduwa is relatively free of the tourist hordes at nearby Hikkaduwa, the locals were genuinely friendly and interested to chat. Plenty to do in the area - Nimal can take you out to see local sights - crafts, gardens, tsunami museum, turtle hatchery etc or you can do whatever you want. Snorkelling was excellent. The food prepared at home was the best in our trip - using mostly fresh local fish. We would highly recommend for travellers who like homestay and amazing food.

We booked Nimals place at short notice, to get away from the hustle and bustle at Mirissa.
At first Nimal was very friendly and directly started offering activities he could arrange for us. I said that generally we would be interested in some, but id like to know the prices beforehand. "yeah,yeah later. No problem!"
This is my honest verdict:
Positive about the place-his wife and family are lovely people and the food she prepared was fantastic. Its quiet enough where they live and as long as there is no power cut and the fans work, the heat is bearable in the small dark room. 
Nimal himself seems very friendly at first but you soon realise he is out to get as much money out of you as possible. 
Negative about the place-toilet door was broken and didn't close. No soap or bin in the small dark bathroom
No water pressure. Blood stained mosquito net should be washed. We encountered 3 cockroaches in our apartment. 
But worst of all, Nimal didnt even give us a written bill and increased the price for the room as well as adding on extra prices for the breakfast which was supposed to be included in the price. When i asked him why he was increasing the prices, his reply was that nothing just falls from the sky and the online agency obviously put up the wrong prices. Instead of simply apologising he blamed us and he got quite angry and stormed off shouting at me. 
I dont believe this man is an honest one and he shouldnt be working in this field. Its such a pity as we met sooo many wonderful Sri Lankans on our trip. And we will definitely come back.. But never to Nimals Place.

NIEMALS NIMALS!Room not worth the price, pushy and aggressive owner who seems super friendly at first but watch out!
