The complex is near by the Butii Gorges, an amazing place to vizit. The food we had was very good, the personal is very friendly.
The restaurant is open fost the whole day. It has inside and outside playgrounds, so our kids were happy while we had dinner. 

It is a nice place for having a great lunch. The turkey soup was just great. And also the Lord's potatoes. Nice places around. The gorges are impressive and easy to reach.

I did not stayed in one of the rooms.

Located at the entrance in the Retezat Mountain Reservation (the oldest, wildest and best preserved in Romania), Cheile Butii Complex has all you need for a perfect summer or winter holiday. 
The rooms are large, newly renovated, very clean. Comfortable beds and bathroom that has a large shower cabin with good pressure and very hot water. Good wifi as well.
The restaurant has a rustic wooden design , excellent food and impecable serving. 
The outside surroundings are breathtaking.
We are coming back for sure!

The cottage is being rebuilt after a recent fire. The project looks spectacular, but I did not expect the restaurant to be perfectly functional. Basically, it's the most decent restaurant in the area - industrial design, spacious, homey and elegant at the same time. The terrace is shady, pleasant, and the toilets are clean, well equipped. It seems hard to believe that it is a restaurant located at the foot of the Retezat Mountains, far from urban civilization. The food is good, regional cuisine with a modern touch. I ordered Saramura de Pastrav (grilled trout in a savory sauce), which was delicious. The wine was also good. No complaints about the service - it was fast and efficient, although the terrace was full.

Last autumn we've been in the mountains for a long weekend with some friends. The location we picked was Cheile Butii Cabin and here are the findings: 
- location  - near the Retezat Mountains - one of the most visited and most appreciated mountains in Romania. At the cabin they have a generous parking lot - since the main option on getting there is by personal car. And the parking is free, for customers. The restaurant has an excellent seating capacity and some very good dishes - if you like romanian style food you are in the right place. In terms of rooms they can accommodate groups up to 60 people so I would say it's fairly decent. 
In terms of activities - you can do hiking and tracking when in the warm season, they organize paintball activities by request so ask. In the winter skiing in the area is popular, so there are activities you can do in every season. 
- rooms/bathroom - rooms are kind of simple - my bed was also not the most comfortable, but it was very clean. Bathroom kind of small, the shower booth very small - I'm not the biggest guy but it was difficult to fit and take a shower with the doors close on the booth. But once again the bathroom was very clean -  a plus at the end. 
- services - easy and fast check-in and check-out. And they take credit card in the hotel and at the restaurant too. Tips, if you feel like,  you need to do cash. 
Restaurant staff very friendly and efficient even with the larger group that we were there at the time. 
- prices  - for us it was cheap, I picked budget , so those are very pocket friendly, so a very good price to quality ratio. 
Overall if you are not looking for luxury this is a very good place for you.

It is a nice location for a mountain trip.Nice staff.The room was clean,warm ,not very big but cosy.The breakfast was ok.It is an ideal location to start visiting the retezat mountains.I recomend it..

A long weekend at the mountains

Very good location 

Cheile Butii is a good access place in Retezat National Park to easily get to the hiking trails in Retezat mountains, which is why we chose this location. The place is a disappointment, with buildings in construction and poor maintenance. 

The room was spacious, but very poor isolated, so you could hear your neighbors snoring, talking or walking in the rooms next and above you.

The breakfast is a joke, you have no choice but to accept their standard option: fried eggs with some cheese and vegetables, same every morning. Bonus: I got a bitten olive on my plate. 

Overall, a place to return only if you have to, not to actually spend time there, but to visit the attractions around.



Mediocre service in a place where there is no competition

It deserves a star for the location, otherwise the food leaves much to be desired, as does the service.
The soups were acceptable, but with a canteen taste, a kind of "menu of the day from the seaside". The chicken with mushrooms and cream was inedible, the chicken tasted like rubber, and the mushroom sauce tasted like flour and water, the slightly cooked polenta was very raw, a kind of "al dente". The duck was disgusting, the cabbage was barely edible. We didn't order dessert for fear of getting sick.
I won't go into details about the service because it's the same as the food.
I do not recommend.

Avoid eating here

The rooms are acceptable but the food was horrendous. Altough i received good reviews by friends in previous visits, this time was horrible.
- 3 days in a row they served the same expired aubergine salad evem tho we complained
- expired cheese for the french fries
- everything was 0 salt, pepper or any condiments, so 0 taste

They had a paper in the restaurant they are looking for a cook so it may have been a temporary issue

Horrible and expired food

1) Our two fish (trout) were supposed to be grilled but we received something that was cooked a long time before and was grilled a little to "fulfil" our order. Both fish were dried to the bone with no taste at all.
2) The french fries suffered from the same problem as they were prepared a long time before and were somewhat reheated; as a result they were soaked with oil and very soft.
3) The garlic souce was a theme by itself - an unidentified liquied containing crumbs of garlic; nothing a reputed restaurant will serve.
4) As found (too late) the mushroom salad was actually pieces of wild mushrooms in heavy untasty vinigar.
To sum up: A place with a lot of missed potential - do look to find it and if arrived, abandon your hopes.
