Frosta is the place I live in and love above all on Earth, which is one of the reasons why I have visited this restaurant many times with my family. The place has a unique character; you will find very few places to compare with. They brew their own beer (many of the varieties are award-winning), they have their own whisky, and serve absolutely superb soups. The establishment is family-run and truly has a spark to it. If you want to experience something that will stay with you for the rest of your life, you come here. The place exudes a sense of history, and for this reason, it is not 100% wheelchair accessible. However, it has toilet facilities for us, and we can access large parts of the area, although not everything.

Wonderful staff, good food. Simple accommodations with shared bathroom.Property is about an hour from airport, which resulted in a long and expensive (1800 NOK) taxi ride. However, to get back to Trondheim there is a small boat that picks up passengers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from a pier close to the property which costs only 250 NOK per person.

This place was amazing! It has a beautiful view of the water, and the owner was so kind. They went above and beyond. Tusen takk!

Very authentic atmosphere and awesome food. They also brew beer and distill whisky! You can spend a night in one of the cosy rooms and the breakfast was one of the best ones I have had! Local produce and fresh ingridients.

Came here for sights only and having some small lunch while camping nearby. We took fish balls and pork knuckle for adults and kids took cattle cubes. All was very tasty and fresh. This was the best quality lunch in our Norway trip so far. I've had some pork knuckle in German style earlier and this one was way above those in taste, freshness and all quality metrics. This isn't cheap eat but worth the money still. I would recommend testing the place.

We were a group of approx 40 people and we got fish soup with the fresh, warm bread and a delicious dessert. They had prepared own bowls for the ones who had different allergies and the hosts were super friendly. Can really recommend this place at Tautra. Nice surroundings with the monastery ruins behind the barn. They also have their own brewery and a shop where you can buy nice things

Stopped at the island of Tautra on a tour of Trondheimsfjord, going firstly to the new monastery, followed by a visit to the café set near the old ruined monastery. The café/accommodation was set in a wonderful old characterful farmhouse, in a great location, with views across the fjord in a number of directions, giving a feeling of splendid isolation,

The plan was to try the local seaweed soup, but with a temperature of 32 degrees on the day, this didn't seem appropriate. Fortunately, the café brews an excellent range of its own beers, one of which, Blonde was perfect refreshment on such a warm day. Although we didn't stay there, the accommodation looked of a high standard with plenty of historic charm.

Overall, a wonderful lunchtime stopover..

We stayed there for a celebration of a friend. Amazing nature, charming rooms, excellent homemade beer and whiskey! Food was fantastic!!! The nature around with the view was breathtaking. A visit to the nuns at the monastery is also worthwhile!!!

We were first offered a four poster bed upstairs on top of the restaurant, looking out over the abbey ruins, but the heating had not been turned on. The boss showed us another room with sea/fjordviews in an separate building (he lives upstairs), and we decided to take that.  There were 4 twin rooms there, with 1 bathroom to share between us, and the only toilet in that bathroom. There was also a large lounge with a massive dining table, a tv corner and fridge. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves for 2 days, the other 3 days we had one other couple staying with us.  I can imagine it being too crowed or a tad difficult if all the rooms are occupied in high season.
Breakfast is fabulous, either a large buffet, or 2 slices a bread with fried eggs & bacon. Their bread is homemade, as are their waffles, that are served with sour cream and jam.  Evening meals are very filling, lots of boiled potatoes & several vegetables, and either meat or fish.
Oh, and you cannot lock your room, there are no keys! It's a Norwegian thing, apparently. You can lock yourself in, though.
