Glen Almond House

We stayed here for 5 nights and could not have been treated better. It’s more like staying with some old friends than a hotel. The balcony room with marvellous views over the town and out to sea is a particular gem. Breakfast is very relaxed and after a coffee on the sunny verandah you’re set up for a day of exploring. The proprietors are full of ideas and information about the locality, so whether you wander into New Plymouth itself, drive up towards Mount Taranaki or travel further afield you won’t be short of things to see.  

We stayed 3 nights at the Glen Almond B B Our room was on the first floor with excellent views over the city and the sea. Our room was spacious very clean and tastefully decorated. Our hosts Ann and Efion were always on hand for support or ideas to help to optimise our stay. We borrowed two bikes and cycled the length of the coastal walkway and the Te Henui trail. Breakfasts were tasty and most enjoyable. A great place to stay

We had the balcony room overlooking the ocean and a fabulous room it was!.Breakfasts were very enjoyable with lots of local ingredients.Peaceful and cosy and the hosts were very helpful and thoughtful.

The Glen Almond House is the victorian house I was expecting to find during all my trip in New Zealand and It had been the only one like that.  A beautiful old house with very charming guests and an enchanting view on the sea. Everything was perfect. Anne and Eifion are really taking care of each details. With our to young boys, we nearly felt like at home with family. Anne cooked us some marvelous cake and breakfasts and the kids were so happy to met real hungry caterpillars in the beautiful garden. New Plymouth and its area offer lots of things to see and to do, from swimming and surfing on the sea to trekking on the volcano. All in all, we had a wonderful stay there and would definitively would love to go again if New Zealand was not so far from France;)

Glen Almond House
over night location at end of the forgotten highway
1 night in New Plymouth 

Stayed one night at Glen Almond  having driven the forgotten highway ( an excellent drive) on our way back to Wellington ( for the record the thick end of six hours drive) 

Welcomed on arrival with coffee and biscuits – most welcome 

The host was enthusiastic about the town and what it has to offer the visitor – not sure that it is the most interesting locations but for us simply an overnight stay ) 
Town centre 30 mins walk has a selection of places to eat – most needs will be met 
The park in town is illuminated at night over the holiday period and well worth a visit – about 50 mins walk from the house the host will provide directions 

The host makes the lounge available to guests ( 2 letting bedrooms) as a sitting room with tea and coffee available 
Breakfast consists of fruit juice , cereal toast and coffee all very welcome 
The room is clean and comfortable being classically furnished 
The Bathroom is private but not en suite – dressing gowns are provided 
On site parking available – all feels very safe 

the town was less interesting than i had hoped - more industrial than seaside
