Düsternbrook Safari Guest Farm

We stayed in a Double room (Point of View) at Düsternbrook and very much enjoyed the tranquility and the incredible view at the pool and our room & deck. The staff are all kind, helpful and happy to answer all questions. Whilst driving to the lodge we already spotted heaps of animals like giraffes, warthogs, all kind of birds, baboons, Kudus, springboks etc., so driving slowly pays off. Breakfast was delicious and the lady servicing us was an absolute gem. We’d come back for the room, view and the animals we saw, when driving through the park by ourselves.

It was my second time visiting Düsternbrook and my expectations were fulfilled once again. 
The nice staff, the great atmosphere during the meals, the beautiful nature surroundings and the really good activities (Cats unlimited - a must for every photographer if you want excellent photos of leopards and cheetahs) are what make Dusternbrook special.
The safari rooms we had are nice, comfortable and simple and got everything you need.
We will go there again, the next time we are in Namibia!

We stayed at Dusternbrook as the first stop on out road trip of Namibia, Botswana and Zim.
Our part consisted of four adults. As we arrived into Namibia on different flights two of our party were picked up and transferred to the guest farm.
The pickup was good, with the transport waiting as soon as we arrived; we were then quickly taken to Dusternbrook where we went on the ‘Cats Unlimited’ cheetah and leopard drive. 
There is a variety of accommodation choices on the site as well as a camp site. The accommodation allocated to us was in the Colonial House, one room slept 4 in one double and two twins whilst the other room had a double and one single bed. Both of the rooms were ideal for families. 
We enjoyed a drink at the outdoor bar, a hearty evening meal in the partially outdoor dining area. In the morning breakfast was served in the main farm house. The food served was simple home cooked food and delicious. 
As we left the Guest farm we saw many animals, I would highly recommend this accommodation. To think that it is less than a one hour drive from the main city in Namibia – Windhoek- it is a delightful piece of tranquillity.

We stayed at Düsternbrook for 6 days altogether. We even came back at the end of our trip because we liked it so much there. Located within 1,5 hours from the airport and 1 hour from Windhoek it was the best starting point for us. We stayed at the hippo chalet and one of the tented rooms at the campsite and we liked both very much. Especially all the wild animals roaming directly at your doors and windows fascinated us very much. Embedded in the breathtaking nature you find everything you need for a great experience of Namibia: well-guided game drives and wildcat feedings, a great rustic dinner and breakfast and on top a big and clean pool. We are thankful and strongly recommend the guest farm! 

This is a lovely place.  The staff is extremely accommodating and helpful  The room was made up with a flourish.  The towel was shaped like an elephant to emphasize the ambiance.

Nice, historical setting with a wonderful, helpful staff.  Lovely rooms with towel on bed shaped like an elephant, as an extra touch.  Very nice tours,, and very reasonably priced.

Duesternbrrok would not be for everyone. If you desire all the creature comforts then I suggest you look somewhere elae. But if you want have dinner with a rwal character who is more than happy to share his Namibia storie then this plqce is for you. It's informal dining and you just run a tab. Wonderful property. Went for a great   2 1/2 hour hike. There are many trails. If you decide this is alace you want to try, I suggest you stay a minimum of 2 nights (3 would be better), as there are a lot of activities to try.

Duesternbrook Luxury Tents - accommodation is unique in tents with all you need and an added shower area. Good views of the riverbed.  
The Lodge signage is very bad and you drive quite a bit not know if it is the right direction. Upon arrival at the reception we were greeted friendly and the game drive was amazing. Saw a lot of game and Antilope on the first day in Namibia. The Driver was knowledgeable and friendly.  
The only negative comment is that the dinner was not good at all.It was a joint big table with all guests at the lodge and buffet service. The meat, however, was so overcooked no one could eat it, we advised the waiters and reception of this on the evening though. Precooked meat cannot be held warm in the warming dishes as they just get like shoesole. The breakfast overlooking the waterhole was great though and overall a nice lodge. 


Who could have guessed to find such a  bushveld and safari experience nestled amongst the hills so close to a city! Having just come from Erindi, I was amazingly surprised. The rooms at the lodge could perhaps do with some Safari/bushveld theme revamp which will compliment this estate beautifully but this is merely my personal opinion. They were clean and functional without 'city slicker' bells and whistles It is an eco estate after all, not a Hilton Hotel.  With the current heart rendering drought the focus of the owner is most likely to be on the well-fare and upkeep of his wildlife which was an absolute joy to behold, rather than paint and frills!😉 The staff Solastika, Saima and Gertrude quickly became like family to me. Help was always at hand and nothing was ever too much asked of them. Being a pretty private person myself I preferred dinner to be brought to my room rather than joining a group table dinner set-up. This was no pproblem to them at all. Meals could perhaps be more German and include bockwurst, sauerkraut und kartofelnsalat or game pie😁 rather than pasta but once again it is my personal preference. First Night in Namibia, good overall experience

Love this place!

Great stay not far from Windhoek

The old farmhouse has a quaint old-fashioned charm, and it is an interesting experience dining all together at a long table, the food was O.K., but not a highlight. The majority of the guests seem to be German, so I don't know how it works, when you don't speak to language. My room was in the old colonial house, and could use some freshening up, but it is perfectly fine. I participated to most of the offered activities, my personal highlight was the morning drive in the Khomas mountains, with beautiful landscapes and mountain zebra sightings.

Great place, amazing wildlife, friendly hosts and staff

We have used Duesternbrook lodge at the first and last night of our stay in Namibia. We did not use the lodge but a chalet, a few km.s away.The Chalet Hippo 2 is simple but really very good. Clean, good warm water, solar lighting and an excellent fire pit and bbq spot with view over the lake. One can even sit on the roof. No complaints about the chalet.The lodge was used by us for dinner and breakfast. Both are quite pricey. The dinner is a common dinner and you basically share table. Be one time!The service during breakfast and dinner is very bad. All staff seem to hide in the kitchen, so if for instance bread runs out, you have to go and find them! Food is good, but not excellent.On the last night we decided better not to join the shared dinner  and make dinner ourselves, while w could hear, but not see, that the five hippos were coming around us to shore to have their vegetarian dinner. Summarized: Chalets recommended, restaurant not recommended.

The place is beautiful and with many animals, really quiet. We had a chalet far away from the main house with view to the water and animals. All was good except for the smell in chalet - like it would be newly painted and it was hard to sleep in. Prices for additional services are quite high. Otherwise everybody is very nice. They have pool area to relax, however for cleaness of the water they should take more care.
