In 2014, my friend and I made some absolutely spectacular memories in Morocco and it was mostly down to the kindness and hospitality we had in this hostel. The proprietor was bright, cheerful, friendly and extremely welcoming, even though we arrived very late in the day. The hostel was cool (literally and figuratively) and a peaceful place to sit, drink tea and shoot the breeze. I’ve dreamed of it since then, remembering the fun and adventure we had. Things like toilets and dodgy showers fade into nothing (though I can’t remember having any complaints about either) whilst the memory of the warmth of the people stays with you for a lifetime. 

Sitting on the beautiful roof top, reading a book, chatting to other tourists, helping clean up after a night (because we wanted to, because we were made to feel like family), feeling fully relaxed, this is what I remember most. 

Mohammed, I truly hope you, your family and your staff are okay and, if and when you get chance to read this, just know that two English girls you greeted with open arms 9 years ago remember you with nothing but the highest of respect. 

The best memories of this place

Very good for backpackers who want to spend some time and get to know Morocco, very attentive and solicitous staff, a very reasonable bathroom that's good enough to bathe in, offering people some teas and delicious breakfast coffee.

Great cost benefit

I stayed at Hostel Waka Waka for 3 nights over a 10 day period in January 2020. Good location in the Medina and relatively easy to find after the first visit. 

It’s communal areas and rooms are very clean, however the 3 toilet shower combinations are not. The showers were always hot and it has comfortable beds. The super cheap price (€6 per night) includes a basic breakfast which is more than adequate. 

Definitely the worst Wi-Fi I have ever come across in a hostel, and if more than a couple of people are staying you will struggled to even load an e-mail or read a post on social media (none of which are data heavy tasks).

The bedrooms are off the main social area and there is music blaring and lights on until  gone 11:30pm every night, so it is extremely difficult to sleep.

The roof terrace has some sort of homeless guy monopolising one of the corners with all his belongings so this area is unusable.

I found one of the Male staff spying through the retractable riad roof cover on a large group of mid to late teenage girls from Russia which was totally inappropriate - when he saw that I had seen him he sloped off pretty quickly. 

I’m sure there are much better places to stay for only a few £/€/$/¥ more - Would I stay hear again or recommend to friends and family? No... I wouldn’t.

Stifling hot with no air con in the rooms or hostel made it impossible to sleep. I had to be very insistent in asking staff to guide my friend and I out of the alleys that the hostel is in the middle of. Overall staff are extremely unhelpful, it’s in a bad location and has poor amenities. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

If you want a 5 star experience, do not book a cheap hostel. 
If you want to meet interesting people and to be made part of a family, Waka Waka is for you. 
Accomodation is basic but the breakfast is yummy. 
Travelling as a single female, I felt safe and well looked after. 
I will definitely return, I had the best Christmas and New year and made some lifelong friends.
Forget luxury, choose adventure!

The breakfast starts from 6am but actually it actually started at 7ish, but okay
If you happen to take a shower before the breakfast, the water heater wont function (idk maybe it must be turned on first— i took a shower at 5.30 before Mohamed woke up)

Dim light but i really did not mind

Overall, it was quite a good deal with quite cheap price, i would highly recommend this for anyone who plans to go backpacking/on budget. 🤗


Good location, cheap price, nice services

I stayed at the hostel for 1 night and it was great. Since I was sick, the owner was so nice, that he let me stay and rest in the room for the whole day after check out time. It was very kind and hospitable deed. I'd defenitely recommend travellers to stay there!

Great hospitality and atmosphere

The place is pretty dirty, especially the toilets and wash rooms - they really are not up to any standards of even considering washing in them. Rooms are very dark and dingy. If you are a female solo traveller, I would not recommend this hostel at all. The host is vey innapropriate, touching women on the hips slyly as he walks by them and speaking to them in a flirty and innapropriate manner - even when if your partner is right next to you. We decided to swap to another hostel the second night for the same price and it was a thousand times better.

Pretty awful stay

The look is a hotel for young people on the move. For the price it has it is very noisy, much, if you listen to everything, not to mention the noise that the bathroom doors make. friendly staff, uncomfortable pillows, uncomfortable perches, unopened bathroom floor with unhygienic appearance. The rooms that don't go to the beach don't offer anything extra and the price is excessive just because it's the rate. There are others for the same or lower price that offer more.

Very noisy.

The hostel is in the Medina so you are very close to the town center. Also no problem getting out of the city because the city gates are close. It's not so clean but if your traveling on a budget you'll be fine.
