322 reviewsOk: The Hotel is closed at the moment and it will also not allow any bookings (whether directly nor by booking.com). There is a legal dispute going on and we can only sense what exactly is happening behind the scenes. So the following is true for us and we can only speak for us, but after all it was a very positive experience: We booked Viento de Mar far back in August 2017 for 6 nights in February 18. When we arrived here at Tulum, we found out that Viento de Mar has become Coco limited. We were sent to Hotel Tata where we met Maggie, the manager of Viento de Mar. For some reasons, all information and communication about the situation has not made it to us, so it was a though situation that we were in - to find a new hotel for 6 nights at Tulum. But Maggie - from the very first minute - was very helpful, asking for some time to find a solution. In the meantime we had lunch at Tata and when Maggie came back she offered us two options of hotels. And initiated the full refund that - in our case - was still outstanding, but has now arrived and settled on our bank account. Over the past 6 days, Maggie really comforted us and made sure we were fine. And in any case, we always could reach out to her. So she made everything - in a very uncomfortable situation for her as well - to satisfy us. And she topped it. We had a great time, staying not where we wanted to, but enjoyed Tulum a lot. And, as curious as we are: We checked out the former Viento de Mar (now: Coco limited) and in some way we were disappointed: The soul (of Maggie?) was missing, no ownership, no host.... This shows again that infrastructure (=hotel) is only worth 50%, the rest is service and dedication. We also could sense the great service minded spirit of former employees of the Viento de Mar who now work at Tata, when we were having lunch at Tata. So the future still seems unclear, the re-posession of Coco limited by Viento de Mar may take some time, but we know: We would go there 100%, since we could experience the ownership, the carefulness and sincerity by Maggie..., so that we know: Once Maggie will be able to run her hotel again, it will be a very very nice experience..., as many of the former recommendations here on tripadvisor are also stating. Conclusion: Maggie makes the best out of the situation and doesn’t let you down, because she really cares.
