Sivilay Guesthouse

We only found this place because all the others on this side (the southern quieter side) were full. It is about 200 metres further along the road going out of town than Maylyn and therefore still very accessible to the main town and other sights. We were so happy we found it as it was such a great place with the best views in Vang Vieng, a peaceful rural setting with nothing else around and large, clean, comfortable rooms in a lovely garden setting, run by a friendly family. It was magical to sit out on their big lawn watching the sun go down over the karsts and fields every night. It doesn't really have any tourist amenities such as a restaurant or booking service but this actually makes it way more relaxed and means you are not just hanging out with hordes of western backpackers. There are a number of restaurants on the south side within short walking distance and the lovely old lady just down the road sells cold beers, essential for the sunsets. I highly recommend this place, I'd go back tomorrow (especially if you want an alternative experience than the party scene of Vang Vieng).
