Patio hotel was amazing! The location first of all was brilliant but the main thing I loved about my stay there. Are the wonderful staff, they went above and beyond and helped me and my mum. They helped us so much with; transport anything and everything they we’re all so kind and friendly. I loved getting breakfast at the hotel, the food was delicious and it was like staying with family. It was so warm and welcoming seeing everyone at breakfast. Shigemi san, Emmiko san and Hiroki san we’re brilliant. I want to go back just to see them

What a lovely place! A bit isolated, close to Ama Beach (turtles!), but nice and clean. The 3-bed suite was simple and spacious. Breakfast was traditional Japanese and very tasty. Old bikes available for free on a first-come-first-serve basis, but then again you can always walk into town. Free flashlights came in handy.
Only problem was that the staff was not very responsive when we tried to contact them before our trip. I tried to email them, message them on Facebook, call their phone number... and no one ever answered. Finding the staff during the day was like looking for the Iriomote Cat -- we know they're there, we just can't see them. Other than that, it was a very relaxing place.

We stayed three days at Patio House Reef on Zamami. Upon disembarking the ferry from Naha, we took the village bus to Ama Beach which is a few minutes walk from the Patio House Reef Hotel. Using Google maps on our phones (there is 4G on the island) we found our way, and got help from a friendly local for the last bit of the walk.

The staff (son and mother as we understood it) at Patio House Reef speak basic English, but we managed to understand each other and were checked in to a comfortable room. All rooms are located around a courtyard with a seating area in the middle. There is a small restaurant in the same building where the "lobby" is where you can have pre-booked breakfast and dinner. Staff is not always present - it is a very relaxed place and people walk around and come and go as they please. Someone usually showed up eventually if you hung around for a while. :) One thing should also be noted and that is that they do not clean every day. We had no cleaning done during our three days.

The room is fairly basic with decently comfortable beds, toilet and shower, there is a fridge, electricity sockets, a small flat screen tv and wifi (advertised as only on the courtyard but we had connection in our room).

Location is close to Ama beach, which is very beautiful and great for snorkeling and swimming. There were no restaurants or shops (although a few vending machines for drinks and an ice cream place) open in the area when we visited in mid-April, so you need to walk into town for food or groceries. The walk is very pretty during daylight and is probably 15-20 minutes. There are also 4 or 5 bikes available in the hotel, but they went fast since it's "first come first served". There is of course also the bus, but it stops running approximately 6 pm. The walk is fairly easy though, and there are flash lights to borrow since it's quite dark to walk certain parts of the trip in to town when sun is down. In Zamami Village there is a surprisingly big number of proper restaurants for such a small town. We particularly enjoyed Izakaya Santa (居酒屋三楽), which is a bit hard to find however.

Patio House Reef provided a very comfortable and charming place to stay. The rooms are comfortable enough considering you're on a remote island, and the location is great considering you have a really beautiful beach just minutes from the hotel. Added bonus is the free pick up and delivery to the port upon check in/check out and the free onigiri rice balls made for us for breakfast a couple of days since they feared we were hungry. I would absolutely stay again.

Everything was perfect, except one thing

Very comfortable given location

Patio House Reef is a pension located near the Ama Beach and is about 1.6 km from the Harbour where the Zamami town is located.  The Ama Beach is about 3-minutes walk from the pension, a very beautiful beach.  We are keen snorkelers.  Although the beach is not as good as Furuzamami Beach (about 3 km away) in terms of snorkeling, it is good enough to spend an hour or more with plenty of fishes and a fair variety of corals, star fish, sea cucumber....

The pension offered shuttle service to Zamami town which is 1.6 km away and pick up, virtually at any time we asked for it..  Otherwise, we relied on public bus service between Ama --- Zamami Harbour ---- Furuzamami beach (very popular and good for snorkeling) with 300 yen each way.  But the bus was of very infrequent schedule.  There are other more frequent public shuttle service between Zamami Harbour and Furuzamami beach but we were not aware of anything else from Ama Beach.  That is to say the Ama Beach is quite isolated.  Though advertised to have bicycles for use by guests for free, there were actually only two bicycles for use of all the guests and they were not of good size, one rather big and the other rather small.  Another form of transport was taxi boats which the pension can arrange for guests costing 1500 yen per person round trip to any nearby deserted island.  We felt that it was reasonable.

Staff were very good and very responsive.  Unfortunately, there was no room cleaning nor change of towels during the whole of stay (3 days).  May be that is common for pension. The air-conditioner was good and the wifi available in common area provided a degree of comfort.

Rather isolated but good staff

We stayed 4 nights in the off season. 

Room was tiny and for 16.000Y not a bargain. Towels and amenities available upon request. Room and bathroom was not cleaned during the stay at all . Breakfast was neither included nor available and makes it even more difficult in such a remote place. Good was the free bikes to go around and the free shuttle. Nothing else to highlight. Oh and after having a very old and "smelly" room I personally enjoyed the roughly 50 bed bug bites as a souvenir and the overwhelming gasoline smell coming from the adjacent building.
