Tomiya Ryokan

My friends and I stayed for 4 nights in this hotel. Location is perfect, the market and the Kyoto train station nearby. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. We really enjoyed the experience of a more traditional hotel and found the staff to be lovely and helpful. They really went out of their way to accomodate our needs and on the last morning I discovered I'd lost my wallet somewhere in Kyoto the night before. The staff at the hotel bent over backwards to help and within the hour I was on my way to the Police Station 15 minutes away to collect my handed in wallet with nothing missing. So amazing. What wonderful honest people in Japan and I can't thank the hotel staff enough for their help. highly recommend this hotel as a great place to stay.

We spent four nights at Ryokan Tomiya in Kyoto and were quite charmed by the experience. We had arrived early, but check in was around 3.30 or 4 pm, so we decided to leave our luggage at the reception. The gentleman was very helpful and provided us with a map of places to visit and a bus schedule. He even pointed out some of the sights we could visit. The room was quite unique, it had an combined air-conditioner and heater , complete with the wooden panel covered with paper and tea things and cinnamon cookies on the tea table. We had opted for the Breakfast plan. This was served by a wonderful lady who showed us how to prepare some of the dishes. The bed was made every evening when we returned from our days’ outings and the room was kept warm. The best thing about Tomiya is Kyoto station and bus stand are two minutes away. The station has a large number of restaurants and shops; there is even a food mart right across the road. We had to catch an early morning train to Osaka and the people were ready and waiting; they stood on the pavement and waved us goodbye till we crossed the road and reached the station.  Riyokan Tomiya is a definitely a good place to stay in Kyoto.

This place is not perfect, but it checks all the boxes you need when travelling. The rooms are small, but that is common in Japan. However, the staff, the location and the food are amazing. 
I have stayed here more than 10 times and would never consider staying anywhere else in Kyoto.

The position of this hotel was the reason for making the booking and is very convenient for late arrivals being in front of the station. We found the room clean and comfortable and the staff to be helpful and to speak English.

Riyokan Tomiya: a charming experience

One night in Kyoto

I stayed at Tomiya Ryokan because of their location. Kyoto is very small. You really don't need stay close to train station. I required a quiet room when I made reservation. Front desk told me all rooms were "good". Well, my room faced to train station. The wall is not sound proof. I barely had three hours sleep. Comforter was very warm. But floor was not clean. Room was dark. There were two beat up chairs. Dust covered aged refrigerator. There were holes on closet door. There was bad smell in bathroom.
