Hakuba Windy Lodge

This is a great place to stay. The ski lift to Sakka is 5 mins to walk in ski boots, two on normal boots. The hosts were so amazing and gave us lots of advice and help, nothing was too much trouble. 

There’s a general store opposite, a ski hire store next door. 

The beef restaurant in the lodge served the most amazing Kobe beef that we have ever eaten, better than some Michelin star restaurants in London or Hong Kong. 
You definitely have to eat there. 

We stayed with our two boy and the hosts were lovely with them. 

This is our first trip to Hakuba and we will definitely come back and we will stay at Windy Lodge again. 

Great accomodation and great proximity to the slopes. With Happo at your doorstep, the place was a massive hit. The hosts even helped plan the rest of our holiday! If you’re heading to Hakuba, especially with your mates, consider the Windy lodge!

I have written and erased so many lines because everything just hasn't captured how wonderful this place is. My partner and I stayed here when we went to Hakuba upon a recommendation from a family member. The hosts were so inviting and warm, by the end of our 4 day trip we felt like family. 

They arrange transport from the bus station to the lodge, a short 5 minute ride away and back again upon checkout. During our trip we met some wonderful other travellers who also shared our love for Windy, most of them return guests with around 3-4 having stayed there more than 5 times! It's easy to see why. 

The restaurant was incredible. We didn't splash out for any of the expensive food instead going with the chicken and pork and oh my word. We joked that it had ruined Australian food forever. It was so amazing. 

The location of Windy is the best. Literally next door is a cafe and a ski hire store. The ADAM gondola and slopes are a 5 minute walk with snow boots on, so probably 2 if you were in normal shoes, ha! 

The rooms are so nice and clean and the heater works wonders. We had a room with an ensuite and all the amenities were provided, plus the room was super clean. The staff were working holiday kids and just absolutely friendly. Nothing was too much to ask. 

The atmosphere is wonderful and there is even a few common seating areas and game areas to chat with other guests. We can't wait to return. 

I loved my stay at Windy Lodge. Shozo, Akira & Mieko (and their dogs) were lovely and made us feel very welcome and at home. The lodge is a bit dated inside, but the rooms are comfortable, clean and warm. Very close to Sakka lift which is great for getting up on Happo One. Bus stops either next door or at the Sakka lift to get you  everywhere else. 
Lodge staff incredibly obliging by dropping us off at bus station, Happo town and pretty much any other local spot we needed.
Breakfast great - plenty of food to keep you going for a day on the slopes. 
We had a private bathroom which I really appreciated; there was a washing machine and dryer available which is great. Restaurant and steak was fantastic!

The room was dated but did the job.  We had our own bathroom which was very basic.  Pillows were not comfortable I used a blanket instead.  It was fine though and would stay again.  The rooms were not cleaned every day which wasn't a big issue for me either.  The hallway was pretty loud and you could hear people stamping around and talking very clearly.  The heater was amazing and kept us toasty warm.  They had extra blankets too.

We didn't get a 'tour' of the amenities when we arrived and were not aware there was  2x Japanese baths or a sauna downstairs until halfway through our 12 night stay.  I think there was a lounge area upstairs  too but I never went in there.  

Location is not exactly central but there is a convenience shop right across the road, free shuttle next door to the ski resorts and a couple of nice westerny places to eat nearby (penke bar behind the lodge and good coffee and hot chocolate can be brought at the rabbits hole across the street).  I found it inconvenient to go to the 'town' area it's too far to walk and the night buses weren't very frequent.   The owners did do drop offs if you booked in advance tho but that is only one way.  During the day until about 5pm the no2 bus which stops at Sakka lift car park was free and did a loop around the town and to the info centre if you wanted to get there.

Sakka lift is a few minutes walk away.  Don't buy your lift tickets in advance in Australia it's easy to buy them there on the day with the English speaking staff.

We got the lady to book us a massage in town which was nice.  Also a private onsen (10min walk up the road) it was lovely looking out into the forest and snow.  She also booked us a trip to the snow monkeys and temple in Nagano which was 12k¥ and I would highly recommend that day trip through ski japan.

Breakfast is included it was basic and generally pretty similar each morning which got a bit boring for me. Fruit salad, yoghurt, cereal, some hot items like potato wedges, eggs made different ways, sometime bacon, hash browns, crumbed fish etc.  there were also bread rolls and toast.  Juices and a coffee machine plus tea selection too.  It was enough to keep me going till lunch 

This may sound like a lot of negative comments but it was not that bad and a cheap option compared to many other places and I would probably stay here again if I was to go back to hakuba based on value for money.
