Perfect hosts in a beautiful area. They can't do enough for you, always a full glass of palinka! Breakfast and meals included, wifi available and most importantly really beautiful rooms to stay in. If you need a place to visit ask Tamas about the hiking trip around the hills to the balaton. 

After our visit to Budapest in early May, we wanted to see the Hungarian countryside and decided to stay one night in Tihany on Lake Balaton.  Our lodgings were at the Holiday Hotel Tihany, which seems to still be referred to on TripAdvisor as the Allegro (that is their old name, as the photos of Allegro definitely show the place we stayed.)  This was a very nice, classy, clean, well-maintained, and convenient place to stay in the little village of Tihany.  Holiday Hotel's positive points: 1) nice Hungarian country atmosphere; 2) very friendly staff; 3) excellent breakfast; 4) nicely furnished room with view of countryside; 5) central location for walking around town.  The shortcomings of this hotel are: 1) wi-fi was not working (apparently affecting the whole town at that time); 2) no elevator -- 3 flights up to our 3rd floor room; 3) very little English spoken by the staff--but we were able to communicate well enough to check in, get breakfast, check out; 4) hotel website is in Hungarian--we sent an email in English to ask for availability and rate.  Reply was in broken English but made clear they would like a deposit in advance.  We had several email exchanges trying to arrange that but never could make it happen.  So we showed up without having paid a deposit, the reservation had been held, and and we paid on-site with no problems.  Despite these minor issues, we did enjoy staying at this hotel.

We stayed at the Allegro hotel for a couple of days in early September. It is a charming, privately owned, family style hotel. I agree with the other reviewers that the owner and hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful. All speak either English or German, the owner speaks both languages fluently. There is a breakfast buffet in the morning and after being asked whether we wanted anything else they fixed scrambled eggs for us. In the lobby area is a bar for drinks in the evening. The hotel has secure access to the rooms with a key card. I want to point out that the rooms have air conditioning which cannot be expected automatically in Hungary. We came to appreciate it because it was very hot during our visit.

Amazing place to stay! 

nice place in small town Tihany

Probably the best hotel in Tihany

We stayed at this hotel during our one week vacation in the Balaton area. The hotel has a good location in the charming little town Tihany with a lot of restaurants within walking distance. The lake is not in walking distance but anyway we found the hotel a good starting point for trips by car to attractions around the Lake Balaton.

We had a superior room but we found the room dated, dark and boring. The room was large but this seemed to be the only "superior" about it. The beds were terrible and it was difficult to sleep. Cleaning was not acceptable (one of the days our room was not cleaned at all). There were ants in the room and there was no proper refill of toilet paper, soap and napkins, and not always the correct number of towels.

On the positive side the WiFi and the AC worked well.

Breakfast was average. The pool was small but nice and the pool area looked nice. The pool furniture was old and not very clean.

Staff was friendly but the check-in and check-out did not go as smooth as it should. At check-in we had to leave a deposit for the room key. The room price was stated in EUR and they had to use a calculator in order provide it in HUF. At check-out they wanted us to pay cache in EUR(the amount corresponded to almost 1000 EUR for the week stay). When we insisted we could pay with the credit card but we did not get a proper receipt until we asked for it.

Overrated at TripAdvisor

We visited this hotel because it has a very good location. We stayed there almost one week. Hotel was a good point to make trips. Abbey and many restaurants are located within walking distance. Unfortunately only this one was its advantage. The hotel’s owner tried to save money with everything and I could not feel myself as guest at the hotel. Cleaning was not acceptable (one of the days our room was not cleaned at all). Quality of bathroom was awful. There was no proper refill of toilet paper, soap and napkins. At the beginning we got used soaps only. Breakfast was very poor. There was not warm breakfast. Dinner was awful as well. Only one main course was (no soup and no dessert) and in additional to it was frozen food. There was not air-conditioning in the room and it was very hot, I could not sleep. One member of staff (Gábor) was very friendly but the others were strange and I did not feel that I was the guest. There was not option to pay credit card and we did not get any proper receipt either. I do not suggest to stay here. It was too expensive against its quality.
