The hotel was great! The only negative thing I have to say is there's not much water pressure in the shower, but that's pretty common anywhere you stay in Guatemala.

The beds, bed sheets and towels were excellent. Great views of the lake and the island of Flores. Good good at the restaurant. 10 minute walk to the island. Next to the mall

Staff is so friendly, helpful.  Food is allowed in swimming pool area...huge plus.  Rooms are average but decent. Great air conditioning.  Restaurant has great prices. Would stay again

I higly recomed this place. Excellent service,beautiful rooms, beautiful view and good price for the excellent service they provide.
We were looking for a last minute place to stay one night and found the best one.
You can even eat across the street.

This hotel with pool is well situated in Santa Elena (Isla de Flores is short walking distance). I highly prefer to stay here because of the scenery/view of the beautiful island from the hotel and specially because it is quiet & peaceful (Isla de Flores can be cramped of people and very, very noisy specially from Thursday to Monday due to the party scene). One also has restaurants and a big shopping center with supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, cinema, etc. just across the street. I travel during the Christmas Season with my mother, an elderly lady 85 years old who uses a walker for seniors, and an adult brother with physical disabilities. The Manager made sure we receive a room comfortable enough for our one week stay. All staff was always eager to assist and help in many ways. Wi-Fi is included as part of the hotel services and functions extremely well and fast. From this location, one can easily organize and travel to the different attractions and archeological sites in the state "Departamento de Peten" such as Tikal, Yaxha, Ceibal, Aguateca, etc.; and the border with Belize is less than two hours away in a paved street. The hotel is now a Best Western franchise and it is a shame that Best Western HAS DONE NOTHING SINCE ITS ACQUISITION TO REESTABLISH THE OPERATION OF THE ONE AND ONLY ELEVATOR at the premises. It has been inoperative for years! This is the one and only flaw I am pointing out. This is totally unacceptable for Best Western standards. Kudos to the personnel!!

Stayed for one night.Pros: - convenient location, beautiful view on the lake,  very close to Isla de Flores- complementary parking very close to the hotel - friendly courteous staff Cons:-building outdated, needs a renovation. In my room the window wouldn’t close and all noises from the lake were in my room -room was very small, (though quite convenient with a TV  and a minifridge)- warm water in the shower was inconsistent-wifi signal very weak- no elevator (which was not a problem for us)

Beautiful site at edge of lake, great view. Beds were comfortable. A/C worked well- a real comfort on the 100 degree days we were there. Pleasant pool.Staff were pleasant, especially the dining room staff, who worked overtime for our large group with early breakfasts and late dinners. Some of our group had rooms that needed some maintenance, especially with water pressure issue, but water was fine in mine.Anyone with mobility issues should know there is no elevator to the 2nd and 3rd floors. The area directly around the property doesn’t have much of interest, but it’s a short walk across the bridge to the main part of town with lots of restaurants, shops,  views, activities.

I was concerned because I tried to call before going, to schedule a shuttle to pick me up from the airport and to see if i would be able to check in early. I never got through because the number was disconnected. When I arrived I had to get my own taxi and luckily they did allow me to check in. The hotel was very empty I think there was 1 other family. The service at the restaurant was slow but really good. I was also able to leave my luggage in storage since I had an excursion until after my check out... all in all it was good.. oh yeah and the elevator doesn’t work. Reading the other reviews looks like it hasn’t worked for a while . Didn’t bug me at all though went up way more stairs in Tikal and Yaxha

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 4 STARS HOTEL IN SANTA ELENA!

The staff was great and helped us in all what we need. For some reason Expedia didn't include our breakfast, but thank god for that, we ate the breakfast one day and was bad. The hotel is under remodelation so the elevator wasn't working (we were on 3rd floor). Our bed has a small bugs (as mozquitos and bite us all night), the fridge was not working, but they fix it. Also, the air conditioner was working but then it stopped working. The cortains in the bathroom are so short, the water splash into the entire room. The view was excellent and the location I can say that the is the best of the place, you can go walking to the island. They have a small boats to enjoy the lake (free) didn't have enough time to try them.

Excellent view and staff

Hotel is in an excellent location. Front desk staff was very helpful. Room is a tad bit small but is clean and sufficient. Seems like you won't find lots of bigger rooms hotel in this area. The pool was not great...waterfall not working and the elevator is still not working. There seems to be a maintenance issue at this hotel as there are clear visibility of lack of maintenance. Although they try to practice sustainable tourism, seems like this is not translated to staff as housekeepers still change all towels. If going to Ixpanpajul, just go to bus stop in town and take a bus for Q5. Also, purchase transport to Tikal in Flores for Q80 and they will stop you to buy Tikal tickets at the airport....this allows you to avoid long entrance line.

Good location and clean hotel

The staff were so nice to us... went above and beyond to help us!  One of the nights of our stay my daughter threw up in the bed, and they sent a guy up to mop and change the sheets within minutes (boy did we give him a big tip! :)).  And then the night after we had already checked out they let us hang out in the lobby with our two little kids until 8pm, since we were taking an overnight bus back to Antigua.  And they drove us to the bus station and helped us unload our bags too.

We loved this hotel. It was clean and everything we needed was here. Excellent laundry service delivered to our room. Freshly prepared food in the restaurant. Just slow preparation of food but it was all fresh and delicious.  Room was clean and fresh everyday. Just a a ten minute walk to the island for more restaurants and shopping or take one of the bike taxes for a dollar.

Wonderful location

If you are hoping to see Tikal this is a decent spot. I highly recommend seeing Yaxha too. The hotel is safe & comfortable, but a little on the high side since it is in such a tourist heavy location. They can set up tours for you, but you will get more options for less money if you cross the bridge to Flores and visit an agency direct.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Esplendido.Staff is very friendly.Not all of staff members know english but some of the staff do so there was not problem communicating with them.Everyone has been saying to me that Guatemala is a dangerous place.. In this hotel I feelt safe, because they have Guardsguarding the door outside the hotel.I had a friend comming visit me at the hotel and that was really not a problem. Staff knew when to keep distance and when to stay at service.. In general.. I liked it!
